3 Claims. (Cl. 211-74) This invention relates to cooking equipment and more particularly to a timer for timing various cooking and baking operations.
It is an object of the present invention to provide a complete timer unit that can be conveniently mounted upon a wall or other stationary object, and which may be selectively actuated to determine any selected period of time for accurately performing various cooking and baking operations.
Another object of the present invention is to provide a gravity responsive timing unit which is extremely [Etttractive in appearance, easy to use, and which can be especially useful for determining relatively short periods of time for performing various cooking steps.
Other objects of the invention are to provide a timer unit bearing the above objects in mind which is of simple construction, has a minimum number of parts, is inexpensive to manufacture and efiicient in operation.
'For other objects and for a better understanding of the invention, reference may be had to the following detailed description taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawing, in which:
Figure 1 is a front elevational view, with parts broken away, of a timer unit made in accordance with the present invention;
Figure 2 is a side elevational view of the assembly shown in Figure l; and
Figure 3 is a fragmentary bottom plan view of certain parts of the unit shown in Figures 1 and 2.
Referring now more in detail to the drawing, a timer unit made in accordance with the present invention is shown to include a wall bracket that can be conveniently secured upon any wall or stationary object, such as by hooks or tacks extending through openings in the main back plate 14 thereof. A pair of perpendicularly outwardly extending end rods 12 connect the opposite ends of a plurality of spaced apart parallel base rods 22 together to form a supporting platform, while a pair of angularly extending rods 16, one at each end of the main plate 14, braces the outer ends of both end rods 12. Additional brace rods 18 reinforce the entire bracket so as to providea convenient and neat appearing housing for a pair of similar gravity responsive timing units 26.
Each timing unit 26 includes a pair of substantially hollow spherical enclosures 27, 28 connected together by means of an intermediate stem 30 that is hollow and communicates with the interior of both such vessels 27,
28. A pair of upwardly concave bases 24 supported ;-,iupon the rods 22, provide pedestals or sockets for supporting each such gravity responsive timing unit 26 in .3 ice an upright position, with either one of the vessels 27, 28 at the top or bottom.
Each such gravity responsive timing unit 26 has a predetermined quantity of sand 32 within the interior of the vessels 27, 28, the flow of such sand from one vessel to the other by gravity requiring a predetermined period of time. Each such timing unit 26 may be further provided with indicia 34 that will indicate the precise time it takes for the sand to empty from one spherical vessel thereof to the other.
It will now be recognized that through the combined operation of both of these timing units 26, it is possible to determine a time period of any desired duration, from one minute upwards. For example, if it is desired to time a one minute operation, both units 26 are started at the same time, until the two minute unit has emptied, following which the cook will know that only a one minute time period remains in the three minute unit. If it is desired to obtain a two or a three minute period, it is only necessary to use one such timer unit. On the other hand, it is necessary to use both such units in the event that any larger time periods are to be determined.
It will therefore be appreciated that the substantially level platform afforded by the rods 22 of the bracket, and both timer units cooperate to produce a timer that can be used to determine substantially any selected period in a simple and convenient manner, and with a substantial amount of accuracy.
-While various changes may be made in the detail construction, it shall be understood that such changes shall be within the spirit and scope of the present invention as defined by the appended claims.
What I claim as new and desire to protect by Letters Patent of the United States is:
1. A supporting bracket adapted to be suspended upon a vertical wall and for supporting units spaced apart from each other in parallel relationship relative to the vertical wall, including a vertical rectangular shaped rigid flat back panel having openings in each of its opposite upper corners thereof adapted to receive securing means therethrough, a horizontal rectangular flat shelf rigidly secured to the lower edge portion of said back panel and extending outwardly therefrom, said shelf composed of a plurality of spaced apart parallel longitudinally extending rods lying in a common plane, the outermost longitudinal extending rod forming the outermost longitudinal edge of said horizontal fiat shelf, a pair of angular extending brace rods, one of said brace rods arranged at each end of said bracket, the lower ends of said brace rods rigidly secured to the opposite ends of said outermost longitudinal edge of said flat shelf, the upper portions of said brace rods extending upwardly and rearwardly with the upper ends thereof rigidly secured to the opposite upper corners of said back panel adjacent said openings therein, and a pair of transversely outwardly extending shelf end rods, one of said "shelf end rods rigidly secured at each end of the shelf to the opposite ends of said longitudinally extending rods, the rear ends of said transverse end rods secure to the opposive lower corners of said flat back panel, the forward ends of said end rods secured to the opposite ends of said outermost longitudinal extending rod, whereby the angular rods and the transverse end rods combined with the ends of said pack panel form a triangular end wall for said supporting bracket.
