Be it ,known that I, ANGELINE WHITE,a citizen of the United States, residing at London, in the county of Madison and State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Wash-Boards, of which the followingis a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in wash-boards in which a sheet of zinc having a number of parallel ridges and grooves is secured to a board or frame of suitable shape; and the objects of my improvements are, first, to retain upon its surface a portion of the suds used in washing by providing the sheet of zinc with peculiarly-shaped grooves, each having a deeply re-entering angle or pocket eXtend ing across its surface from one. side of the sheet to the other; and, second, to provide means for retaining a cake of soap upon the wash-board, even when the latter is inclined I attain these objects by the construction illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which-- Figure 1 is a front view of the wash-board constructed according to my invention. In preparing .the corrugations upon a sheet of zinc, the plane sheet is generally passed between fluted rollers to give it the form shown in Fig. 3, and after receiving that form it has heretofore been secured to the frame and placed upon the market. A sheet of zinc having that form of corrugations does not re tain any water or suds upon its surface when it is held vertically or nearly vertically. The

I prefer to form the pocket at by submitting the crimped sheet (shown in Fig. 3) to apressure directed obliquely to the general plane of the sheet over a suitable die placed-under the platen of the press; but other means may also be used to produce the pockets a, extending from one edge of the sheet to the other.
To prevent a piece of soap from sliding off the shelf at the upper end of the back board, A, there is inserted into the inner sideof one of the sidepieces, O, ashort distance above the upper end of the board A, one end of awire, b,
and about three inches from said inserted end the wire is bent downward at right angles to the first-described portion,and bent again opposite the upper end of the board A, and has its extremity inserted therein, thus forming a new and inexpensive soap-holder, that unites at the same time one end of the frame to the upper edge of the board supporting the peculiarly-grooved sheet of zinc.
