Description
Filed July 12, 1957 INVENTOR KARL DEBUS &
United States Patent TYPE CASTING MACHINES Karl Debus, 2 Fichtestrasse, Bad Homburg vor der Hohe, Germany Filed July 12, 1957, Ser. No. 672,104
2 Claims. (Cl. 199'60) This invention relates to the connection between the interchangeable ejector rods with which the ejector blades are connected and the ejector slide of modern typecasting machines in which the ejector rods are arranged in sideby-side relation, which slide is provided with a bar which is connected to the slide and couples a lug on an ejector rod, to which the ejector blade is connected, to the slide.
This application is a c ontinuation-in-part of application SN. 409,140, filed February 9, 1954, now abandoned.
A particular disadvantage of the known connections is that in order to disconnect the bar, it is necessary to specially dismantle the device and certain cover plates have to be removed, in particular this takes a great deal of time.
According to this invention this disadvantage is overcome very simply in a type-casting machine by connecting the bar to the slide by means of a leaf spring or the like which may preferably be actuated by hand, and against the resilient force of which the bar is moved out of the locking device in the coupling position. The spring may either carry the bar immediately, or actuate an element to which the bar is connected. In its normal position, for example, the spring urges the bar into the coupling position. By lifting the actuating spring, which may, for example, be provided with a special handle or be curved gently upwards, the bar is moved out of its position behind the lug on the ejector rod to which the ejector blade is connected. The ejector blade can thus be freed from connection with its respective ejector rod and can easily be exchanged for a new one.
The leaf spring or the like may be detachably connected to the slide, for example, by means of one or more screws.
The connection can, moreover, be actuated simply by raising the leaf spring by finger actuation.
One embodiment of the invention is hereinafter described, by way of example, with reference to the accompanying drawing which shows a partial longitudinal section through the slide and the rear end of an ejector rod to which an ejector blade is connected.
The casting wheel slide A is provided with guiding slots B for the ejector rods C. These ejector rods C carry each on their ends facing the casting wheel D a flat ejector blade E, and on their other ends each one lug F by means of which each rod is shifted from one side by the coupling latch G toward the casting wheel D, .as well as is withdrawn by the returning bar H.
Bar H is resiliently connected to the ejector slide K by means of leaf spring I in such a manner than when part L which serves as a handle is lifted, for example by hand, the bar H connected thereto is moved out from the path of all lugs P, so that the ejector rods C may be pulled through engagement of the ejector blades E forwardly, i.e. in the direction of the casting wheel D. The cover plate M forming the ccunterguide for the ejector blades E is provided with grooves N at its side facing the lugs F so as to let pass the lugs F of rods C.
The lost motion Q serves to assure the grasping of the lugs F of the ejector rods C between the coupling latch G common to said latch and the returning bar H also common to said latch which is of essential importance if the so-called format and thus the ejection width of the casting lines is increased since, without this play it could happen that the coupling latch G strikes laterally against lug F and does not come behind the said lug, as it should. Furthermore, the lost motion Q makes certain that the returning bar H will grip over the lugs F upon replacement of rods C.
What I claim is:
1. A type-casting machine comprising a plurality of interchangeable ejector blades, each connected with an ejector rod having a lug at its end opposite to the blade connecting end, an ejector slide, a returning bar disposed transversely of said ejector rods and said lugs to overlie all rods, a single leaf spring for connecting said rods with the said slide, said leaf spring being detachably secured at its one end to said slide, bear-ing at an intermediate part thereof said returning bar and thereby being adapted to urge said bar by its own resilient force in a lug latching position to prevent movement of said rods in the ejection direction, said spring also extending freely beyond said bar in the direction toward said blades and having an end slightly bent upwardly to provide a handle allowing a lifting of the said bar out of its lug engaging position against the resilient force of the leaf spring.
2. A type-casting machine as in claim 1, having a coupling latch disposed on said slide parallel to said bar to transmit ejection movement to said ejector rod and disposed at a distance from said bar relative to the width of said lug to provide lost motion between the forward and backward motion of said rods.
