J. 0. SQUIRES & Ji K. SHRIVER. GUARD FOR MOLDING MACHINES.
Patented Feb. 12, 1884.

JOHN O. SQUIRES AND JOSEPH K. SHBIVER,-OF BALTIMORE, MARYLAND.
GUARD FOR MOLDING-MACHINES.
SPECIFICATION formingpart of Letters Patent No. 293,534, dated February 12, 1884. f Application filed December 26, 1883. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Beit known that we, JOHN O. S UIREs and JosEPH K. SHRIVER, both of the city of Baltimore, and State of Maryland, have invented certain Improvements in Wood-Molding Ma chines, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a device to be ap plied to a molding-inachine to protect the hands of the operator against the revolving cutters, as will hereinafter fully appear.
In the accompanying drawings, forming a part hereof, Figure I is a front view of the invention. Fig. II is a side View of Fig. I. Fig. III is a top view of theinvention. Fig. IV is a top view of the device modified in construction. Figs. Vand VI are views of the device further modified.
Referring to Figs. I, II, and III, A is the table, andB the spindle, of the machine. The cutters, which are denoted bye, are secured between nuts I) on the spindle B.
O is a guard, supported by the standard D, which, together with the guard, is slotted for the reception of the bolt 0. The guard 0 is formed of a strip of iron bent so as to have a rounded end and two parallel straight sides,
which are connected rigidly together by a brace, d. The guard and standard being slotted, the former maybe adjusted in position to suit cutters of different sizes, and also turned up or back, as shown in dotted lines, Fig. II. The guard is placed slightly above the cutters, or elevated sufficiently above the table to admit of the board or piece to be molded being operated upon.
In Fig. IV two standards are used, and in Figs. V and VI a single standard is employed, and the brace slotted and united to the standard by means of a bolt.
We claim-' i In a molding-machine, the table A, the vertical slotted standard D, attached rigidly to the table, the slotted guard G, having a curved end, and parallel sides oonnected. by a stiffening-brace, and the bolt 0, all combined substantially as and for the purpose specified.
JOHN O. SQUIRES.
JOSEPH K. SHRIVER.
