SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Eatent No. 293,396, dated February 12, 1884. Application filed December 13, 1883. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GUS A. BAHN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Austin, in the county of Travis and State of Texas, have invented a new and useful Improvement in a Combined Napkin Ring and Holder; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of the invention disposed as a napkin-ring; and Fig. 2 is a view of the device, showing it applied as a napkin-holder; V
My invention is in the nature of a combined napkin ring and holder, designed to receive the napkin after it is folded, or to be used as a device for sustaining the napkin at the neck of the user when at the table. It consists in a yoke-shaped piece of metal having a hinged In the drawings, B represents a bowed or yoke-shaped strip of metal, and A is a section or strip of corresponding transverse dimension, hinged at a to one of the ends of the piece said slot.
B, and'connected to the other end of said piece B by a spring-catch, b. When, said ends are connected by the section A, the device forms a closed band or ring, into which the napkin is inserted in the usual way. Upon the outside of one of the sides of the yoke Bis attached a sliding clasp, G, fastened thereto by a slot and a headed stud, e, passing through kin-holder, the section A is opened on its hinge, and the bowed or curved portion 13 is hooked into the collar or wearing-apparel at the neck, as shown in Fig. 2, with the clasp (ion the Now, to use the device as a napoutside and the napkin caught between the latter and the section B. After the meal is over, the napkin-holder is detached, the section A is closed, and the napkin is folded and passed through the device asa ring.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new is A combined napkin ring and holder, consisting of the two sections A and B, hinged together, and provided with a catch for fastening them, and a sliding clasp-piece, G, substantially as and for the purpose described.
GUS A. BAHN.
