COOLING-CASKET FOR PR'ESERVING THE BODIES OF CHILDREN.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 293,361, dated February 12-, 1884.
Application filed September 4, IBFQ.
(No model.)
To all whom, it may concern Be it known that I, CHARLES M. RUTAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Paterson, Passaic county, State of New Jersey, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Gaskets for Preserving the Bodies of Children, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part thereof.
' Preserving-caskets as now constructed are large and cumbersome, with only a small light of glass in the top, or with a top or lid composed of two plates of glass for exposing the-body to view.
The object of my invention is to produce a childs preserving casket the entire top of V which is composed of a single plate of glass,
and the use of which is confined to preserving the bodies of children exclusively, which will be hereinafter more fullyexplained.
Figure 1 of the drawings is a front view of the cooler. Fig. 2 is an end view of the same. Fig. 3 is a longitudinal section, showing construction and general arrangement of details; and Fig. 4 is a cross-section.
or represents a casket for preserving the bodies of children after death, and is provided with a main cover or lid, 12, which cover or lid surface of the upper portion of the cover I),
and is secured in the rabbet byputty e. The
' cover I) is provided with an exposing-lid, c,
which lid is suitably hinged to the edge of the cover b. Above the single plate of glass (1 the joint between the body a and cover or lid 7) is provided with an elastic fillet, I), said fillet being arranged in a groove prepared therefor in the body a and cover b. The casket is providedwith handles s. The interior of the casket is provided with a metal lining, m, having a faucet, n, racks or brackets Z, cooling-frame 9, having handles k, and head-rest In practice, the body to be preserved is placed on the cooling-frame g,- the ice is placed in the space 1),- the frame 9 is lifted by \Vhen for any purpose the body is to be exposed, the eXposing-lid c is raised, which actionexposes the entire body to view by means of the unobstructed single plate of glass d.
I am aware that the lining m. faucet n, 0001- ing-frame g, racks Z, also covers having glass plates arranged therein, are old in preserving caskets for adults, for which caskets I make no claim herein; but 7 i In a cooler for corpses of children, a lid, 1), having full-length glass (1, in combination with a cooling-board, g, vertically adjustab e upon supports Z within the cooler, whereby the full length of the corpse can be exposed to view at a suitable distance below the glass, substantially as set forth.
