RAILROAD-SWITCH MOVER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 293,026, dated February 5, 1584.

certain new and useful Improvements in Railroad-Switch Movers, of which the followingis a specification.
My invention relates to that class of switchpoint movers which adjust the points to suit either track, known as low-stand or tumble-over.
My object is to devise a switch-point mover which can be operated with ease, and at the 7 less liable to get out of repair than those now same time moving the switch-points accurately.
My further object is to provide a switchmover which occupies less space and being in use, which will be hereinafter more fully explained, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 represents plan of switch-mover in connection with switch-points. Fig. 2 is enlarged end view, section :0 m, Fig. 1, with cover. Fig. 3 represents side elevation, section in y y, Fig. 2, with cover and lock. Fig. 4 represents end elevation of same when a higher stand is desired.

a represents outer shell or case; b, nut; c, movable sleeve; 1, guiderod; 6, connectingrod; ffi'movable switch-points; g, fixed rail. In the case a is an annular spiral slot, 71, into which is fitted a projection, m, on the outer surface of the nut b, and travels in the slot h in the same manner as a threaded bolt moves in its nut, the said nut b having projecting lugs or ears n, in which are holes to receive the guide-rod (Z, upon which the said nut and movable sleeve 0 move freely endwise. The
movable sleeve 0 is retained in its relative position'with the nut b by fitting between the projectingears a. The connecting-rod e is attached to the sleeve 0 by lock-nuts, as shown. The nut b is revolved by arm 1), attached to same in thelug or projection 111. By revolv ing the'nut b, the projection on same travels in the sloth, and moves said nut endwise upon the guide-rod (l in either direction the dis tance corresponding to the pitch or angle of the slot h in the case a, at the same time moving the sleeve 0 the same distance, which transmits its motion to the switch-points, and is locked by cover 7;, which protects it from dirt or snow.
The advantage of my improvement is that, the throw of the lever or arm being parallel with the track, I am enabled to place the mover close to the track, or between switchpoints, if desired, whereas in the present system of using the crank the lever operates to and from the track, often occupying valuable space in its movements. 6
VVhenit is desired to raise the stand or moving lever higher from the ground, I extend an upright brace or support upon the ner of application.
