A further object of the invention resides in the provision of an ornament which maybe folded from a single strip of material so as to allow the ornament to be produced at a relatively low cost. a

A further object of the invention resides in the provision of a decorative ornament constructed from an elongated strip by the provision of transverse and complementary folds which are so arranged that the ornament or very small space for storage in a convenient manner.

An additional feature of the invention lies in the provision of a decorative ornament whichis adapted for use in holiday ornamentation as on Christmas trees or the likeand which maybe decorated with a suitable design applied on the strip of material from which the decorative ornament is manufactured before or during the manufacture of thedecorative ornament.

' Still further objects and features of this invention reside in the provision of a decorative ornament that is simple to manufacture, easy to mount and utilize, and which may be manufactured from relatively inexpensive and readily available materials.

These, together with the various ancillary objects and features of the invention which will become apparent as the following description proceeds, are attained by this decorative ornament, a preferred embodiment of which has been illustrated in the accompanying drawing, by way of example only, wherein:

Figure 1 is a perspective view of the elongated strip of material from which the decorative ornament is constructed and illustrates the arrangement of the folds produced therein; 1

Figure 2 is a plan view of one of the elongated strips from which a decorative ornament can be formed;

Figure 3 is a perspective view of a decorative ornament shown during an intermediate step in the folding of one form thereof;

Figure 4 is a plan view of a form of decorative ornament intermediate step in the folding of the decorative ornament;

Figure 5 is an elevational view of a form of the invention after folding;

Figure 6 is a top plan view of a form of decorative ornament looking along the plane of line 66 in Figure 5.

Strip 10 is used to construct an ornament which exemplifies the invention. This strip is preferably formed from a suitable thin plastic film or the like and may be omamented before or during the manufacture of the decorawhen not in use can be compressed into a suitable shape tive ornaments. The strip 10 may be formed as part of a'continuous length provided with perforations as at 14 and 16 whereby the elongated strips 10 may be separatedfrom each other. The strip 10 is provided with a plurality of transverse folds as at 18, 20, 22, 24, 26, 28,-etc. These folds divide the strip 10 into sections as are indicated at 30, 32, 34, 36, 38, 40, etc. l a The

=When it is desired to form a .decorative ornament as shown in Figure 5, and indicated by. reference numeral 80,'the triangularrportions 82,- 84 on the ends of the strip are brought together so that alternate transverse folds abut each other in the manner most clearlyshown in Figure 6. 82 and 84 may be joined by means of a hook passing through the various apertures 42,. 44, 46, 52, by adhesive, or by i any other suitable means. Preferably a hook or suitably similar device is used so .as to enable the ornament to be readily released whereby for purposes of storage, it may be compressed to a folded triangular position of greatly compressed and reduced compass.

From the foregoing the construction and operation of the device will 'be readily understood and further explanation is believed to be unnecessary, However, since numerous modifications and changes will readily occur to those skilled in the art, it. is not desired to limit the invention to the exact construction shown and described, and accordingly allsuitablemodifications and equivalents may be resorted to, falling within the scope of the invention as claimed.

What is claimed as new is as follows:

1. A decorative ornament which is constructed of a plurality of radially arranged leaves, said ornament comprising an elongated strip having straight parallel side edges, a series of transverse fold lines extending completely across said strip, said transverse fold lines dividing said strip into a plurality of sections, each of said sections having a pair of complementary folds dividing each of said sections into two congruent right triangular portions and a third triangular portion, each of said complementary-folds interconnecting two adjacent transverse folds, said complementary folds extending from one of said transverse folds adjacent the edge of said strip to an adjacent transverse fold at the midpoint thereof.

2. A decorative ornament comprising an elongated strip having straight parallel side edges a series of transverse fold lines extending completely across said strip, said transverse fold lines dividing said strip into a plurality of sections, each of said sections having a pair of complementary folds dividing each of said sections into two congruent right triangular portions and a third triangular portion, the end sections of said stn'p having apertures therethrough, and at least one other of said sections having at least one aperture therethrough by which to accommodate fasteners.

6. A decorative ornament comprising an elongated rectangular strip having a series of transverse fold lines, said transverse fold lines dividing said strip into a plurality of rectangular sections, each of said sections having a pair 4 of complementary folds dividing each of said sections into two congruent right triangular portions and a third triangular portion located between said congruent portions, each of said complementary folds interconnecting two adjacent transverse folds, said complementary folds extending from one of said transverse folds adjacent the edge of said strip to an adjacent transverse fold at the midpoint thereof, said strip folded with pairs of said right triangular portions at opposite edges of said strip extending angularly inwardly towards each other to form an ornament leaf from said two pairs of congruent portions and from two adjacent third triangular portions, the midpoints of alternate transverse folds arranged in abutting relationship, the end sections of said strip having apertures therethrough, and one or more other of said sections having an aperture or apertures therethrough by which to accommodate a fastener.

7. The ornament of claim 6 wherein there are a pluralityof leaves each constructed of two pairs of congruent portions at opposite edges of said strip and two superposed third portions, and said leaves being radially arranged with respect to a longitudinal centerline.

8. An ornament of one-piece sheet construction and including a-sheet, a plurality of leaves, each leaf having more than one ply of said sheet, said leaves extending outwardly in radial planes which pass through a. longitudinal central axis of the ornament and being hingedly arranged about said central axis, and means releasably fastening said leaves in the radial planes so that said leaves are movable to a collapsed position upon releasing said means. 3 r I 9.
