PIRMIN KOEPFER AND HERMAN KOEPFER, OF FOND DU LAC, VISCONSIN.
BOB-SLED.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 291,744, dated January 8, 1884.
Application filed September 10, 1893.
To all whom t may concern,.-
Be it known that we, PiBMIN KOEPFER and HERMAN KOEPFER, of. Fond du Lac, in the county of Fond du Lac, and in the State of Visconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sleighs, and we do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and eXact description thereof.
Our invention relates to improvements in sleigh-bobs, and will be fully described hereinafter.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a side. elevation of a sleigh-bob, showing our improvements. Figs. 2 and 3 are sectional views, show ing details of same.
A indicates the runners, B the knees, and G the cross-beam. Said knees B are provided on both their inner and outer faces with braces D, fastened on same by rivets or bolts. These braces have their upper ends bent out at right angles and rounded to form trunnions b, and move freely in box-bearings a, bolted on the under side of said beam C on each side of the knees B. The upper end of said knees is inserted, as usual, in the mortise of the crossbeam C; but in our sleigh-bob said end of knees is formed so that said cross-beam is permitted a rocking motion on same. This is effected by making the front and rear faces of said knees beveling toward each other up to their top, and cutting the mortise square Said cross-beam, mortise, and front and rear faces of knees end are provided with metal plates b b', to protect the wood of said parts. The hat iron raves E, bolted to the runners A at b2 b2, have, in about their center, a long hole or slot for lug c, formed in the flanged metal (No model.)
plate F, screwed or bolted on the upper face without in the least distorting the body of the sleigh.
Having thus described our invention, what we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
l. In a sleigh-bob, the. combination, with the runners A and knees B, of the mortise cross-beam C, provided with the bearings a on the under side, and the metal braces D, securely bolted to the runners and to the knees, and having trunnioned ends fitted within said bearings, substantially as set forth.
2. In asleigh-bob, the raves E, having long hole or slot in about their center, in combination with the crossbeam C, having flanged metal plates F, in center of which lug c is formed for said hole or slot in raves E, substantially as shown and described, and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony that we claim the foregoing we have hereunto set our hands, on this 3d day of August, 1888, in the presence of two witnesses.
PIRMIN KOEPFER. HERMAN KOEPFER. Witnesses:
