, UNITED STATES PATENT OFF CE,
JOSEPH J. OLISHAM, OF SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA.
SlNGLE-CABLE-TRACK RA I LWAY.
$PECIFICATION formingpart of Letters Patent No. 291,691, dated January 8, 1884. Application filed February 28, 1882. (No model.)
To aZZ whom/ it may concern Be itknown that I, J OSEPH J. CLISHAM, of San Diego, California, have invented a new and useful Single-Gable-Track Railway, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings and letters of reference marked thereon, in which the figure is a perspective view of my improvement when a balloon or kite is employed for propelling the spool.
a single-wire track or cable secured at its ends to the ground'or posts, and of greater length than the distance between the points to which its ends are secured. The cable A passes once around the shaft or axis 0 of a spool, B.
To the prolonged ends of the axis c are secured the cordscl, joined together at e.
g represents a cord secured at one end to the cords cl (1 at their junction at e, the opposite end of the cord being secured to a balloon or kite, so that the action of the wind on the kite or balloon in the direction of the arrow will carry the spool forward, and with it anything desired to be carried.
The device above described may readily be applied to carrying parcels from onepoint to another.
The parcels to be conveyed may be inserted in a basket or baskets hung or secured to the axle of the spool, or the parcels may be placed on a frame secured to the axle of the spool. The buoyant force exerted vertically by the balloon or kite equally on the prolonged ends of the axis a will keep the spool in an upright position, while the forward pull on the axis by the lines d will carry the spool B forward, and with it the parcels secured thereto.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The spool B and cable A, wound around said spool, and secured at its ends, in combination with a balloon or kite attached to the axis of the spool, substantially as shown and described.
JOSEPH J. OLISHAM.
