WAGON-SEAT.
tPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 291,583, dated January 1, 1884.
Application filed September 8,1883. (No model.) i
To all whom it may concern/.-
Be it known that I, SETH MOORE, of Salem, in the county of Oolumbiana and State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Wagon-Seats, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the annexed drawings, forming part of this specification.
This invention relates to adjustable seats for spring-wagons; and the invention consistsof the novel construction hereinafter described and claimed.
In the drawings, Figurel is a vertical longitudinal section of a wagon-bed, showing my invention. Fig. 2 is a crosssection on line so a: of Fig. 1.
A indicates the sides of the wagonbed, and B is a metallic strap secured to the upper edge of the sides. The inner surfaces of the sides are recessed at 0, just under the straps, in
order that the inner edges of the straps may form lips, with which clamps may engage to hold the seat-raiser F to the bed.
The construction above described is recognized as common in this class of inventions. For securing the seat-raiser to the straps 13, however, I provide the following construction:
. The seat-raiser is formed with base-plates G,
bent supports H, and braces I, and is adapted to rest flat upon thcstraps B. On the inner edges of the platesG are formed lugs J, which overlap the inner edges of the straps and pre vent the seat K and raiser F from moving sidewise. The clamps E have inner lips, L, which overlap the inner edges of the straps and engage the under side of the same by means of the grooves O, and have outer lips, M, which overlap the outer edges of the straps. The clamps E have thumb-screws N, which pass through the clamps and plates G, and bear against the upper sides of the straps B when screwed down. The straps B are provided with recesses O, to allow the lips L of the clamps to be passed in and out of engage ment with the grooves G.
What I claim is The combination, with the wagon-bed having grooves in its sides, of the seat-support= ing plates G, having lugs J, the clamps E, having lips L M overlapping the sides of the bed, and screws N, passing through the said clamps and plates and bearing against the sides of the bed, substantially as shown and described.
SETH MOORE. Witnesses:
