3 Claims. (Cl. 132-46) The present invention generally relates to a device for permanent hair waving, hot and cold, and permanent hair curling, hot and cold, as well as hair setting and styling.
An object of the present invention is to provide a hair waving device in the form of a curling envelope which is extremely simple in construction, easy to use, inexpensive, comfortable and edective for its purpose and dispenses with the necessity of curling rods, clasps and pins.
Another object of the present invention is to provide a hair waving device in the form of an envelope constructed of paper material having a portion thereof constructed of waterproof material and another portion constructed of moisture absorbent material.
These together with other objects and advantages which will become subsequently apparent reside in the details of construction and operation as more fully hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawings forming a part hereof, wherein like numerals refer to like parts throughout, and in which:
Figure l is a side elevational view of a plurality of the hair curling Idevices assembled in position for use;
Figure 2 is a sectional view taken substantially upon a plane passing along section line 2 2 of Figure 1 illustrating the details of construction of the hair curling device;
Figure 3 is a front view showing the curling device in open condition with a curl for-med therein; and
Figure 4 is a perspective view of the hair curling device with no hair therein.
Referring now specifically to the drawings, the numeral generally designates the hair curling device of the present invention for use in conjunction with strands of hair 12 on the head 14 of a wearer. The strand of hair is formed in a spiral manner to form a sculpture style wave and the hair waving device includes an inner circular member generally designated by numeral 18 and an outer circular member generally designated by numeral 16 with members 16 and 18 generally forming a circular dat reservoir for retaining Ithe strand of hair 20 which has been Wound into a scuplture style curl.
The outer member 16 which is disposed adjacent the head and is larger in diameter than the inner member 18 includes an annular ri'ng or odset peripheral annular edge 22 formed on a backing 24 having a central slot 26 formed Y therein for receiving the strand of hair. The annular ring or odset edge 22 is formed by reversely folding the edge of the backing member 24 with the inner edge 28 secured thereto by any suitable means. Diametrically opposed slots 30 are formed in the reversely folded edge forming the annular ring or odset edge 22 and the edge 28. Also, the backing member 24 and the remainder of the outer member 16 may be constructed of fibrous paper which has high moisture absorbing qualities.
The inner member 18 is provided with a circular mem- 'ber 32 of Waterproof material having an annular pef ripheral odset edge 34 and an inwardly extending ange principles of the invention.
36 formed by reversely folding the edges of the member 32. The annular odset edge 34 as well as the member 32 is provided with diametrically opposed tabs 38 for reception of slots 30. One of the tabs 38 of the member 32 is received in and connected to one of -th'e slots 30 and diverging side edges of the tab 38 extends into the edges or ends of the annular member 22 thus hingedly connecting the members 16 and 18 together so that the member 16 may overlie and generally encircle the inner member 18 as illustrated in Figure 2 thus'forming a reservoir for the sculpture curl 20.
The outer member 16 as shown has a paper handle 40 thereon and it may be provided on either of the members 16 or 18 or on both of the members 16 and 18 for facilitating the opening of the members 16 and 18.
VIn using the present invention, the hair may or may not be first shampooed and a strand thereof is pulled through the 1A inch opening or slot 26 in the outer member 16 and a sculpture ringlet 20 is then curled by using the strand of hair and the members 16 and 18 are closed together thus enclosing the curl within the envelope. If a cold wave permanent is desired, the strand of hair is moistened before closing the rings. If hair setting is desired, the same procedure is followed and the rings or edges when closed will act as a pin or clip for holding the curls in position. This enables the curl to be neutralized while in the envelope and can be dried without taking the envelope down in permanent waving or hair curling whereby the hair can be styled in the manner it is to be worn.
The foregoing is considered as illustrative only of the Further, since numerous modifications and changes will readily occur to those skilled in the art, it is not desired to limit the invention to the exact construction and operation shown and described, and accordingly all suitable modifications and equivalents may be resorted to, falling within the scope of the invention as claimed.
What is claimed as new is as follows:
l. A hair waving device for mounting alongside of the head comprising a first sheet of material adapted to be disposed alongside of a head, an annular peripheral odset edge on said first sheet of material, said first sheet of material having a centrally disposed opening for receiving a strand of hair, a second sheet of material disposed in spaced parallel relation to said first sheet of material, an annular peripheral odset edge on said second sheet of material, said odset edges being disposed in facing relation to each other, the odset edge on the first sheet of material having a diameter greater than the dia-meter of the odset edge on the second sheet of material and telescopically receiving the odset edge on the second sheet thereby forming a reservoir for receiving a coiled strand of hair, handle forming means on each of said sheets of material, and means interconnecting the edges of said sheets of material for releasably retaining the same in enclose-d relation to a coil of hair with the odset edges in telescopic relation with each other, said first sheet of material being constructed of absorbent material with the second sheet of material being waterproof for retaining waving solution on the coiled strand of hair.
2. A hair waving device comprising an inner circular member and an outer circular member, each of said memthe reservoir, and means holding the members together with the annular edges in telescopic relation to each other, said means including bendable paper tabs on one of said members and diametrcally opposed notches in the other of said members for receiving the bendable tabs.
3. The combination of claim .2 wherein the said one member is constructed of absorbent material and the other member is constructed of waterproof material.
