. useful Improvements in Clothes-Lines, of which the following is a description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, where- Figure 1 is a side View of my device, sh0wing in dotted outline various articles suspended from the line. This invention relates specially to that class of lines made of wire for suspending various articles for drying, exhibition, or any similar purpose; and it consists in a series or succession of spring-clips formed in the length of merchantable wire and integral with it, and with twists of the same wire interposed between the clip and the main wire, the said clip holding up any article that may be thrust between its jaws.

In the accompanying drawings, the letter a denotes a line of wire, preferably spring-wire, of any suitable diameter, in the length of which loops b are formed, secured at the point of departure from the main wire by twists. The main part of the loop is expanded, as at d, and its lower part contracted to the V-shaped figure e,the sides of the loop thus forming springs,

between which any article is held when once placed between the re-entrant sides I) b in 5 such manner as to spring them out.

The clips are formed of the rounded wire, and their side jaws do not injure the frailest article that may lie placed between them, as may be done by thrusting an end or fold of the fabric through the enlarged part and then pressing it downward into the V.

The alternate form of loop and clip shown in Fig. 3 is especially serviceable when the line is intended to suspend heavy articles-as quilts and the like-as the weight of the article determines the amount or force of the grip upon it, the standing part f sliding freely through the small twist or loop cin the wireQ Any desired length of wire may be used and the clips formed at intervals, so that when the ends of the wire are fastened to proper supports the clips afford means of hanging any article to be exposed to air or view.

I claim as my invention- As an improved article of manufacture, a clothes-line made of wire, having clips with spring-jaws and twists formed integral with the main wire, the twists placed between the clips and the main line, all substantially as de- 6o scribed.
