iblaim. (01. 20-575 Our invention pertains to a special type of marquee construction.
An object of our invention is to provide a marquee construction having novel characteristics in which the marquee is of maximum strength, and which can be shipped in a compact form.
A further object of our invention is to provide a roarquee construction which is quickly 'and readily assembled, and which can be accommodated to any type of building.
A further object of our invention is to provide an arrangement which can be levelled'to suit conditions, and which is of a simplified construction.
A further object of our invention is to provide a marquee construction having good drainage features, and which can be supported by means of simple elements.
A further object of our invention is to provide a marquee which is suitably made up of sections so that the complete marquee can be made of any desired width.
With these and other objects in view, our invention consists in the construction, arrangement, and combination of the various parts of our device, whereby the objects contemplated are attained, as hereinafter more fully set forth, pointed out in our claims, and-illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is a sectional view of Figure 2 taken along the lines 1-1 of Figure 2 and with parts being broken away,
Figure 2 is a plan view of Figure 1,
Figure 3 is an enlarged sectional view of Figure 2 taken along the lines 3-3 thereof,
Figure 4 is an enlarged sectional view of Figure 2 taken generally along the lines 4-4 thereof,
Figure 5 is a sectional 'view of Figure 4 taken along the lines 5-5 thereof, I
Figure 6 is a sectional view of a modification, taken along the lines 6-6 of Figure 7,
Figure 7 is a forward elevation of Figure 6, and
Figure 8 is a further modification of a forward elevation.
Our invention relates to a marquee construction which can be easily and readily attached to a building, and which includes a variety of advantages as set forth above, and which includes features of adjustability, all of which features will be explained later.
The marquee of our invention is made up in sections which are readily attached to each other, so that the marquee can be made of any desired width laterally and can also be made of any length.
Our invention relates to an improvement of a co-pending application, Serial Number 583,854, filed May 9, 1956, now abandoned, on a Marquee Construction.
We have used the character 10 to designate generally the upper surface of the marquee construction, which member 10 is made up of a series of sloping walls 11 which are integral with the upper portions 12 and the lower portions 13, this member 10 thereby being of a continuous. nature, and including the end flanges 14 at I P tented either. end which are secured to the laterally extending channel members '15, .the memberlO also being joined by means of rivets 16 to the angle members 17 which extend outwardly, these angle members being engaged with thenpper edges of the flange portions 18 of the channels, 19, these channels 19 being secured by means of the. bolts 20 passing through the slots 21, which'slots are provided in the base of. the L-shaped brackets 22, which brackets are secured to -the wall 23 to which wall the marquee construction; is to.be attached. .Attached, above the members 22' ar'e the further-.brackets24. havingv the looped portions 25 which are received in the openings 26 in the lengthened tubes or pipes 27 which are secured to the further short pipe sections 28, to which sections 28 are welded the nuts 29, which nuts 29 threadably engage the studs 30, which studs are secured to the cylindrical collars 31, and received within the collars 31 are the transverse bolts 32 which are bolted as at 33 to the sides 18 of the channel members 19 (see Figure 2).
The character 34 designates a substantially V-shaped in section flashing having the horizontal flange portions 35 for resting upon the top portions 12, this member serving ,to prevent the entrance of blowing rain or water through the end openings 36 (see Figure 1), this member also including a suitable opening '37 for receiving the stud portion 30. These flashing members 34 will not be required around the exterior of the finished marquee since this exterior will have the usual trim structure 38 attached about its perimeter.
It will now be noted that various sections forming the marquee can be made up as shown in Figure 2 by merely placing the channels 19 in the approximate position shown and assembling the other parts 10, etc. onto these channels, these channels thereby providing drainage channels. Also, the marquee can be effectively levelled by merely making the adjustment of turning the stud portions 30 within the nuts 29 and re-inserting the bolts 32, so that in this manner the entire marquee can be levelled by eye or any other means by virtue of this construction. I
The assembled members 10, angles 17 and channels are made in any desired extending length from the wall so that any condition can be met.
The character 38a designates an upwardly bent flange at the inner ends of the channels 19 for preventing any flow of water toward the wall.
Figures 6 and 7 illustrate a modified form of the arrangement wherein identical characters will indicate identical parts, except that in this construction the I-beams 39, which are already installed in place for the marquee, are provided, these I-beams being firmly embedded in the wall, and in this construction we provide the transverse angle member 40 through 'which passes the elongated T-bolt 41 having the threadably engaged nuts 42 for adjustment purposes, the lower end of the T-bolts having the same general construction as that shown in the other modification, it thus being noted that in this arrangement also the levelling effect can be obtamed.
Figure 8 illustrates a still further modification wherein identical characters indicate identical parts, and in this construction the angle pieces 17 are bolted at the top I of the members 10 by means of the lengthened bolts 43 Some changes maybe made in the construction and arrangement of the parts of our invention without departing from the real spirit and purpose of our invention, and it is our intention to cover by our claims any modified forms of structure or use of mechanical equivalents which may be reasonably included within their scope.
We claim as our invention:
A marquee construction 'comprising'sectiona'l units including substantially corrugated type horizontally positioned members, said members being of an-integral and continuous form, means for supporting said members i111 eluding side angles attached 'to said members at either side thereof, means for supporting said side angles including lengthened channels having spaced side flanges, means for adjustably supporting said channels including angularly positioned rods attached to a wall from V which said marquee is supported, including substantially T-shaped members threadably engaged with the lower terminals of said angularly positioned rods, said T-shaped members including transverse cylindrical members, bolts received through said transverse cylindrical members and through said spaced side flanges, substantially V-shaped flashing members positioned between center sections of said corrugated type members.
