Description

P. BLATT Sept. 22, 1959 GIRDLE ANCHOR Filed March 7, 1955 INVENTOR. P4004 5047'?" 4r roe/vars United States Patent GIRDLE ANCHOR Paula Blatt, Cleveland, Ohio Application March 7, 1955, Serial No. 492,685
1 Claim. (Cl. 2313) The present invention relates to the general art of wearing apparel and, more specifically, is for a girdle anchor which is an improvement upon that shown in my co-pending patent application Serial No. 270,200, filed February 6, 1952, now Letters Patent No. 2,742,648, April 24, 1956.
As in my co-pending application, supra, so here also it is the object to devise a girdle anchor that is adapted to hold the girdle down in proper position and to prevent the :same from riding upwardly when stockings are not worn :and that will not itself creep up the leg of the wearer when in position of use but will remain in proper position upon the thigh and that will furthermore serve its intended purpose without any binding action or other discomfort to the wearer.
A more particular object of this invention is to devise :such a girdle anchor that is of comparatively simple girdle anchor is intended to be worn;
Fig. 2 is an elevation of the girdle anchor alone viewed from the inside thereof; and
Fig. 3 is an elevation of the girdle anchor alone viewed from the outside thereof.
Referring now to the accompanying drawing in detail,
the longitudinally elastic strip of fabric 1 is of substan- 1tially U-shape and is adapted to extend about the thigh of the wearer in such manner that the end portions there- -.of may extend upwardly at an angle of approximately :forty-five degrees and this U-shaped strip may be so gplaced about the wearers thigh that the ends thereof will be located according to the normal location of the conventional garter fasteners G depending from the bottom edge of the girdle. The upper ends of the U-shaped strip 1 are cut on a bias of approximately forty-five degrees to its length so as to increase the extent of its end edges and so that such end edges will extend in a substantially horizontal direction when in position of use upon the wearers body.
To the horizontally disposed end edges of the U- shaped strip 1 there are connected the ends of the continuous band 2 of comparatively thin and pliable fabric material which has only longitudinal stretch, that is transversely of the leg of the wearer, and which is of substantial vertical extent. The biased end edges of the U-shaped strip I afford a greater extent for attachment of the band 2 which extends fully across the ends of the :same. There may be provided a laterally extending strip 3 of longitudinally elastic fabric material attached along the bottom edge of the band 2 and across the ends of the strip 1 to serve as a foundation for the band 2 of com-- paratively light-weight material and also for the end of 2,904,793 Patented Sept. 22, 1959 "ice strip 1 and also as a trim, the lower part of the strip 3 being gathered. The ends of the strip 1 may be engaged and secured between the band 2 and the strip 3, as indicated at 5 which indicates also the stitching of the strip 1 and the strip 3 together, and this arrangement of these parts simplifies the sewing together of the same. The band 2 extends above the ends of the strip 1 to a substantial degree and its end edges may be recognized as a continuation of the corresponding edges of the strip 1, as herein indicated; and the top edge of the band 2 may be given a convex or arched form.
By virtue of the comparatively thin and pliable nature of the band 2 and its upward and lateral extent in a continuous manner in the region corresponding to the location of the conventional garter fasteners G at the bottom of a girdle, it is possible to attach such fasteners directly to the band 2 at the exact point thereof as may be found to be most eflicient or most expedient and most comfortable to the wearer in any given case. That is to say, the continuous form of the band 2 will permit the attachment of the vertically depending garter fastener to be made at any one of various points along such band 2 so as to afford the greatest possible degree of efficiency and comfort, without disturbing the direction of extent of such garter fastener as it depends from the girdle; and the tension will be exerted in such manner and in such direction from the point of connection of each garter fastener that such tension will be transmitted to the upwardly extending portions of the U-shaped strip 1. Also, the band 2 will have engagement over a substantial area of the wearers thigh and will accommodate itself to the contour thereof and will thus contribute still further to her sensation of comfort, security and dependability.
Thus the present form of device may serve in a most efficient manner as a girle anchor when stockings are not worn and this device can be depended upon to maintain its most effective position during such use.
Whereas in the present illustration the U-shaped strip 1 is shown as extending about the inner part of the thigh of the wearer so as to position the ends thereof in the region practically below the garter fasteners at the front and rear parts of the girdle, this U-shaped strip 1 may be placed about any part of the wearers thigh so as to properly position the band 2 in a region directly below the garter fasteners at the bottom of the girdle for attachment thereto in the manner above explained.
The comparative simplicity of this form of device and its adaptability and dependability and also the sensation of comfort afforded to the wearer when in use, are thought to constitute a marked advance in the art to which this invention relates.
What I claim is:
A girdle anchor having a circumferential body adapted to fit snugly about the thigh of the wearer and comprising a lower member and an upper member, said lower member consisting of a longitudinally elastic band extending only part-way of said circumferential body and having its ends cut on a bias at approximately forty-five degrees to the direction of its length, said upper member consisting of a comparatively thin and pliable material of only one-way stretch with its lower edge attached along the biased ends of said lower member and extending between the ends of said lower member so as to constitute the remaining part of said circumferential body, said elastic band being adapted to extend at an angle of approximately forty-five degrees to the thigh of the wearer in a U-like manner thereabout when the girdle anchor is in position of use thereupon, the stretch of said upper member being in a direction of its extent between the ends of said lower member, and said upper member being of substantial extent in a direction normal to that of its stretch so as to permit attachment of the garters of a 978,592
girdle thereto. 1,896,681
