Description

Sept. 1, 1959' D. E. SLAUBAUGH SALES BOOKHOLDER INVENTOR.

Filed June 2'7, 1957 United States Patent 1 2,902,295 SALES BOOK HOLDER Dan E. Slaubaugh, Wolford, N. Dak. Application June 27, 1957, Serial No. 668,449 3 Claims. (Cl. 281-45) The present invention relates to new and useful improvements in sales book holders and has for its primary object to provide novel means for firmly securing such books in a manner to facilitate writing therein with one hand while holding the same in the other hand.
Another important object of the invention is to provide a sales book holder of the character described comprising novel means for retaining the used pages or slips, which are retained by the sales person, in an out-of-theway position to permit writing on the unused pages or slips.
Other objects of the invention are to provide a sales book holder of the aforementioned character which will be comparatively simple in construction, strong, durable, compact, of lightweight and which may be manufactured at low cost.
These together with other objects and advantages which will become subsequently apparent reside in the details of construction and operation as more fully hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawings forming a part hereof, wherein like numerals refer to like parts throughout, and in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view, showing a sales book mounted on a holder constructed in accordance with the present invention;
Figure 2 is a vertical sectional view, taken substantially on the line 22 of Figure 1;
Figure 3 is a view in transverse section, taken substantially on the line 3-3 of Figure 1; and
Figure 4 is a view in transverse section, taken substantially on the line 4--4 of Figure 1.
Referring now to the drawing in detail, it will be seen that the embodiment of the invention which has been illustrated comprises an elongated panel 5 of any desired material, preferably a suitable plastic. The longitudinal marginal portions of the panel 5 are bent downwardly and inwardly in a manner to provide flanges 6. Of course, the panel 5 may also be of any suitable dimen- Slidably mounted on the lower or inner portion of the elongated panel 5 is a sales book securing plate 7 which may also be of any suitable material. The plate 7 comprises downwardly, inwardly and then upwardly and outwardly bent side flanges 8 which, as shown to advantage in Figure 4 of the drawing, are slidably interlocked with the flanges 6. The panel 5 and the plate 7 are spaced sufliciently from each other to receive therebetween the usual back 9 of a conventional sales book 10.
Removably and slidably mounted on the upper or outer portion of the panel 5 is a used sales slip or sheet retaining strip 11 of suitable material. The strip 11 comprises downturned end portions 12 terminating in inwardly, upwardly and then outwardly bent flanges 13 (see Figure 3) which are slidably interlocked with the flanges 6 of the panel 5. The slidably adjustable retaining strip 11 receives therebeneath the used sales slips or sheets of the book which are usually retained by the sales person, as indicated at 14.
It is thought that the use of the holder will be readily apparent from a consideration of the foregoing. Briefly, the back 9 of the book 10 is inserted downwardly between the plate 7 and the panel 5 for mounting said book on said panel. Or, this may be accomplished by removing the plate 7, positioning the book 10 on the panel 5 and then slipping said plate on said panel over the back 9 of said book. As the sales slips or sheets of the book 10 are used, those which are retained by the sales person are folded upwardly and inserted beneath the strip 10 to be retained thereby in an out-of-the-way position, thus facilitating writing on the unused slips or sheets. The strip 11 is spaced sufliciently from the panel 5 to receive therebeneath all of the used slips or sheets of the book 10, which are kept by the sales person. By slipping the slidably adjustable strip 11 downwardly on the panel 5 toward the fold of the slips or sheets 14, said slips or sheets may be frictionally clamped between said strip and the panel 5. The members 7 and 11 are frictionally secured in adjusted position on the panel 5. By sliding the plate 7 downwardly beyond the lower or inner end of the panel 5, said plate may function as a hand rest to facilitate writing on the lower end portions of the sales slips or sheets of the book 10.
The foregoing is considered as illustrative only of the principles of the invention. Further, since numerous modifications and changes will readily occur to those skilled in the art, it is not desired to limit the invention to the exact construction and operation shown and described, and accordingly all suitable modifications and equivalents may be resorted to, falling within the scope of the invention as claimed.
What is claimed as new is as follows:
1. A sales book holder comprising; an elongated panel, said panel including longitudinal marginal flanges, a plate slidably mounted on the panel and spaced therefrom for receiving and retaining therebetween the back of a sales book, said plate including marginal flanges slidably interlocked with the first named flanges, and means for securing the used pages of the book in open position on the plate, said means including a transverse strip mounted on the panel for longitudinal sliding adjustment and spaced therefrom for receiving and retaining the used pages therebetween, said strip comprising end flanges slidably interlocked With the first named flanges.
2. A sales book holder comprising: an elongated panel including longitudinal marginal flanges on one side, a plate mounted for longitudinal sliding adjustment on the other side of the panel and spaced therefrom for receiving and retaining therebetween the back of a sales book, said plate comprising marginal side flanges slidably interlocked with the first named flanges, and a transverse strip mounted for sliding adjustment on one end portion of the panel and spaced therefrom for receiving and frictionally retaining therebetween the pages of the book, said strip comprising end flanges slidably interlocked with the first named flanges.
3. The combination of a sales book and a holder therefor, said holder including a support panel upon which said sales book rests, and retaining members independently slidable thereon for retaining a sales book to said panel, said sales book including a plurality of leaves fastened to a reinforced backing sheet, said sheet being disposed between one of said retaining members and said panel, said one member being slidable below the lower edge of said panel to provide a handle for the holder and an extended surface for the arm of a user when writing on the lower portions of said leaves, said other retaining member being disposed near the upper portion of said panel and having the used leaves secured thereby and against said panel so that upon downward movement of said other member the used leaves will be securely held and thus positively position said book on said holder.
