HOSPITAL-CRANE.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 290,088, dated December 11, 18 83.

Be it known that I, ANDREW BRowN MOR- RIsoN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Litchfield, in the county of Montgomery and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hospital- Oranes, of which the following is a specificationyreference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.

. My invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in hospital-cranes, which consist in arranging an adjustable crane with depending supporting cords or rods over a bed or cot, wherebythe mattress or bed-bottom 011 which the patient rests can be lifted above the bed.

' The object of my invention is to move patients in a hospital or other places without hand-lifting, and without changing their position 011 the bed or subjecting them to any pain or inconvenience while being moved. I attain these objects by means of the peculiar construction and arrangement'of the various parts of my device, which will be more fully pointed out and described in the specification and claims, reference being had to the drawings accompanying thisspecification, and forming part of the same, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective vie-w of my device, showing the parts in place, with the bed-bottom raised. Fig. 2 is an end view, showing the legs of the crane extended.

Referring to the drawings, A represents a frame consisting of uprights, cross-pieces, &c. The uprights or standards B and B are pivoted at their upper ends by pivot-bolts c and their lower ends are provided with casters y.

The top cross-pieces and bearing-bars O and G are provided on their inner ends with perforations a, formed to receive holding-pin b, by means of which the top of the frame is adjusted, and the distance between the standards increased or decreased, as desired.

Metal pieces 6 and d are secured to the inner faces of standards B and B, by which the inclined cross-bars are held with pinsd and e when desired. The bedstead or cotF is formed in the usual manner, and provided with a mattress or elastic top, F.

The operation is as follows: The frame Ais placed .over the bedstead F, when the end braces, E and E, are loosened at one end by removing the pins f and g. The standards are pushed apart at their lower ends, when the top of the frame descends to the proper point.

The straps H are attached to the bed-bottom,

on which the patient rests. The standards are then drawn back to the requisite height to lift the bed-bottom and patient free from the bed, when, by means of the casters j, the whole apparatus is transferred to any part of the roomdesired.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, 1s-- 1. In a hospital-crane, the pivoted standards provided with casters, the adjustable top cross-bar, the inclined adjustable side braces, and the-liftin g rods or straps, all arranged and operated substantially as shown.

2. A hospital-crane consisting of standards pivoted at the upper ends and provided with casters at their lower ends, a series of adj ustable braces and cross-bars connecting and holding said standards in place, a series of rods or straps secured by their ends to the top of the stead F and the bed-bottom F, substantially frame, and shed-bottom, substantially as and as shown and specified.
