Description
y 1959 v. J. STENGER 2,894,119
FLASHLIGHT HOLDER Filed Sept. 25, 1957 INVENTOR.
United States Patent FLASHLIGHT HOLDER Victor J. Stenger, Arcola, 11].
Application September 25, 1957, Serial No. 686,079
1 Claim. (Cl. 240-525) This invention relates to camping equipment and more particularly to a holder for flashlights.
It is an object of the present invention to provide a holder which is adapted to support a flashlight in substantially any desired position on relatively any available stationary object.
It is another object of the present invention to provide a flashlight holder of the above type which is particularly suited for camping and other outdoor activities and which may be used to secure the flashlight in any desired position whereby both hands may be free to perform various tasks.
Other objects of the invention are to provide a flashlight holder bearing the above objects in mind which is of simple construction, has a minimum number or parts, is inexpensive to manufacture and eflicient in operation.
For other objects and for a better understanding of the invention, reference may be had to the following detailed description taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawing, in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a flashlight holder made in accordance with the present invention in operative use;
Figure 2 is a plan view of a blank defining the flashlight holder made in accordance with the present invention; and,
Figure 3 is a side elevational view of the blank shown in Figure 2.
Referring now more in detail to the drawing, a flashlight holder made in accordance with the present invention is shown to be constructed from a substantially Tshaped blank 12 having a longitudinal section with a substantially square base 13 provided with a circular opening 14 at one end thereof. This opening 14 is of suflicient size to slidably receive one end 16 of a flashlight therethrough, while providing an abutment for the opposite enlarged lens collar end 19 adjacent the light emitting end of the flashlight so as to prevent the release thereof from securing engagement with the holder. A transverse rectangular shaped portion is integrally secured to the opposite end of the blank 12 and has outwardly extending wings 18 at each end thereof. Each wing 18 is provided with a laterally extending slot 17 which is substantially parallel to the longitudinal axis of the base 13. These slots 17 provide apertures for re- 2,894,119 Patented July 7, 1959 ceiving any suitable stationary object therethrough, such as a twig or branch 20. It is desirable that said base 13 be greater in width than the width of the intermediate portion of said blank 12, and said transverse rectangular portion at the upper end thereof to be at least twice as long as the width of said intermediate portion thereof.
As is clearly shown in Figure 3 of the drawing, the blank 12 is preferably constructed from a flexible material which is substantially tear resistant so that the flashlight is seoured in any desired position without the possibility that the stationary object 20 will tear the slot defining portions of the wings 18. By supporting the blank 12 by means of either one of the slots 17, the flashlight 15 can be tilted in any desired direction. Furthermore, because of the flexibility of the base 13, any available abutment means may be used to vary the angle of inclintion of the flashlight relative to the ground level. It will thus be recognized that this device may be used to support a flashlight at any desired given position from a sta tionary object in order to free both hands for various outdoor activities, or to provide a stationary lamp for other purposes.
While various changes may be made in the detail construction, it shall be understood that such changes shall be within the spirit and scope of the present invention as defined by the appended claim.
What I claim as new and desire to protect by Letters Patent of the United States is:
A one piece T-shaped flexible holder for supporting a substantially cylindrical shaped flashlight having an enlarged lens collar portion adjacent the light emitting end thereof, solely by a circular abutment formed by a circular opening therein comprising, in combination, a T- shaped blank of substantially flexible material, said blank having a longitudinal section with a substantially square base portion at its lower end of greater width than its intermediate portion thereof and a transverse rectangular shaped portion at its upper end thereof of a length at least twice the width of said intermediate portion, said base having a single circlular opening centrally located therein, said transverse rectangular portion having a rectangular shaped slot arranged adjacent each end thereof and extending substantially parallel to the longitudinal axis of said longitudinal section, said slots providing means for slidably receiving means for securing said blank to a supporting object, said circular opening in said base of suflicient size for slidably receiving the lower cylindrical body portion of a substantially cylindrical shaped flashlight with an enlarged collar at its upper lens end and providing an abutment for said enlarged collar upper lens end of said flashlight effecting yieldable support thereof solely by said abutment in the lower end portion of said flexible blank.
