(Cl. 132-46) The present invention generally relates to an article of wearing apparel and more particularly to an article of head wear especially adapted for use by women when sleeping for protecting a hairdo and preventing disarrangement of curls thus saving time and eliminating considerable effort necessary in arranging a hairdo after the same has been disarranged as occurs normally when sleeping.

An object of the present invention is to provide an article of head wear which is adjustable for permitting its use with different size heads and which incorporates a flexible adjustable head encircling strap to which is connected a plurality of interwoven frame members or strips of material which run transversely, longitudinally and as annular members in parallel relation to the strap thus providing a substantially rigid dome shaped enclosure for the head which is disposed in spaced relation to the head thus providing space for curls or the like.

A further object of the present invention is to provide an article of head wear which is extremely simple in construction, adapted for its particular uses and its relatively inexpensive manufacturing costs.

These together with other objects and advantages which will become subsequently apparent reside in the details of construction and operation as more fully hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming a part hereof, wherein like numerals refer to like parts throughout, and in which:

Figure 1 is a side elevational view of the article of head wear of the present invention shown in position on the head of a wearer;

Figure 2 is a plan view of the head piece;

Figure 3 is a detailed partial perspective view illustrating the adjustment means for the adjacent ends of the strap; and

Figure 4 is a detailed sectional view taken substantially upon a plane passing along section line 4-4 of Figure 1 illustrating the construction of the strap and the mechanism for attaching the strap to the strips or frame members.

Referring now to the drawings, the numeral generally designates the article of head wear which includes an endless flexible strap generally designated by the numeral 12.

The flexible strap 12 includes an elongated strip of resilient material 14 such as foam rubber which is covered with a lining of water resistant material 16 to prevent absorption of perspiration in the foam rubber 14.

Figure 3 illustrates means for interconnecting the adjacent ends of the strap with one end being designated by numeral 18 having a plurality of longitudinally spaced apertures or eyes 20 extending therethrough. The other end 22 is provided with a recessed outer surface 24 having a generally U-shaped hook 26 on the free end thereof for detachable engagement with one of the eyes 20 thereby adjusting the effecting diameter and circumferential size of the strap 12 whereby the device may be worn on heads of different sizes.

A longitudinally extending frame member or arcuate strip member 28 is provided and three transverse frame members or strip members 30 are provided with each of these

28 and 30 having the same end construction for attachment to the strap 12. Figure 4 illustrates this construction in connection with one of the transverse frame members 30 with the transverse frame member 30 having a U-shaped or hook shaped end portion 32. The

resilient foam rubber strip 14 is provided with a longi* tudinal recess 34 with the outer wall of the recess having a slot 36 extending therethrough for receiving the free end of the hook shaped end portion 32 of the transverse frame member 30. It is pointed out that both the recess 34 and the slot 36 are longer than the width of the hook shaped end portion 32 of the adjacent frame member thereby permitting relative movement restricted by the resiliency of the foam rubber strip 14 thus permitting adjustment of the strap and limited relative movement of the transverse and

28 and 30. A pair of annular frame members 38 is provided in mutually spaced relation and in parallel relation to each other and to the strap 12. The annular frame members 38, the transverse frame members 30 and the longitudinal frame member 28 are all interwoven and constructed of rigid material thus providing a substantially rigid interwoven crown disposed in spaced parallel relation and generally conforming to the shape of the head and the hairdo so that the interwoven frame members will provide adequate support and protection for the curls 40 on the head 42 of the wearer. Also, reinforcing loops of rubber material 44 covered with a lining 46 may be provided for reinforcing the strip of foam rubber 14.

The foregoing is considered as illustrative only of the principles of the invention. Further, since numerous modifications and changes will readily occur to those skilled in the art, it is not desired to limit the invention to the exact construction and operation shown and described, and accordingly, all suitable modifications and equivalents may be resorted to, falling within the scope of the invention as claimed.

What is claimed as new is as follows:

An article of head wear comprising an elongated flexible head encircling strap, means adjustably connecting the ends of the strap together thereby enabling the strap to be disposed on different size heads, a plurality of transverse arcuate frame members, a longitudinal arcuate frame member, means connecting the transverse and 10m gitudinal frame members to the strap for permitting limited relative movement therebetween, a plurality of annular frame members disposed in mutually spaced parallel relation and generally parallel to the strap, said frame members being interwoven and constructed of generally rigid material for enclosing the hair covered portion of the head in spaced relation thereto thereby preventing disarrangement of the hair, said annular frame members decreasing in diameter away from the strap thereby forming a semi-spherical enclosure generally conforming to the shape of the head, said means for interconnecting the ends of the strap including a plurality of longitudinally spaced apertures in one end of the strap, and a hook on the other end of the strap for selective engagement with one of the apertures, said strap being in the form of a strip of foam rubber covered with a lining encircling the strip and reinforcing the same, said means interconnecting the strap with the frame members including a U-shaped hook on each end of each of the frame members, said strap having a plurality of downwardly extending recesses in the upper edge thereof, the outer wall of each recess having a slot therein receiving said hook with the length of the recess and slot being greater than the width of the frame member for permitting limited resilient relative movement between the strap and frame members.
