Description

TYPEWRITER BOTTOM MARGINER Filed April 19, 1957 INVENTOR.
United States Patent Ofiice 2,891,652 Patented June 23, 1959 TYPEWRITER BOTTOM MARGINER Peter Michalsky, Garfield, NJ.
Application April 19, 1957, Serial No. 653,942
2 Claims. (Cl. 197189) This invention relates to a typewriting papers bottom margin regulator or the like. An object of this invention is the provision of a simple economical typewriting papers bottom margin regulator formed from a single piece of sheet material with sides to guide and an end flange for the paper or papers to be adjustably limit stopped thereby, the sheet material being fastened to a typewriter or the like with fasteners.
A feature of this invention is the bending up of the top and side members with the top member being cut in from the edge at both sides through a sheet of material to the bendable spaced points at the bending edge of the sheet leaving the upturned members. A pair of two other shear cut outs are provided each parallel to a side and opposite to the top cut member of the other end leaving limited margins and equally spaced in from the bottom and side edges, both shear cut-outs ending in preferably rounded cross cuts to slidably guide the fastening means which preferably are bolts and wing nuts placed through the sheet material to connect the sheet material to the paper rest of a typewriter, not shown, or the like, making for movable adjustment. Two other preferably slant shear cut offs are made at the bottom edge of the respective side members to trim 011 the corner pointed meeting edge. The top member is bent up and also the adjacent sides and the top ends of the adjacent sides overlap over the top bent up member.
A typewriting paper is placed through the roller of a typewriter and the like to the predetermined bottom margin to be left on the typewriter paper. The regulator may be manually adjusted by loosening the two bolts and wing nuts and manually moving the regulator until the top member of the regulator engages the typewriting sheet and then tightening the bolts and using nuts to lock the regulator in place. Thereafter in typing of the last line the paper will abut the top upturned member of the regulator so that a bulge is visible and the typing will not be continued on that sheet because the limit of the bottom desired margin was reached.
In the drawings Fig. 1 shows the formed sheet with its cut outs ready for the step of placing the marginer on a typewriter or the like; and Fig. 2 shows its side elevational view while Fig. 3 is the additional preferably bolt and wing nut.
The marginer is formed from an original blank designated as 7. A shearing operation or punching step is performed from an edge cut 2 to 3 also 4 to 6 through a sheet of material to the bendable spaced points at both the bending side edges 1 and 5 of the sheet leaving the upturned members as 12, 13 and 14. A pair of slots ending in rounded cross cuts as at 8, 9, 10 and 11 are provided parallel to the sides 12 and 13 and opposite to the top out member of the other end 14 leaving limited margins and equally spaced in from the bottom only nonbendable side 15. Two other slant shear cut ofls are made at both the bottom edges 16 and 17 of the respective side members 12 and 13 to remove the bottom corners pointed meeting edge. The punching and punching off or stamping operation outlines three sides 12, 13 and 14 of desired width, height and length.
These sides, when bent perpendicular to the plane of the original blank, form an enclosure for guiding the typewriting paper not shown or the like upon marginer 7 to the limit stop. The typewriter paper or papers when contacting the bendable edge 14 will cause a visible bulging of the typewriting paper or the like if the bottom margin is exceeded.
I claim:
1. A bottom marginer for typewriters comprising a sheet of bendable material having bent-up top and side flanges with the top ends of said side flanges inturned to overlap the ends of said top flange, and a pair of slots disposed parallel to said side flanges adjacent the bottom edge of said sheet, said slots being adapted to receive fastening means for adjustably securing said sheet to the paper rest of a typewriter with the top flange of said sheet in position to act as a limit stop for the top edge of the paper being fed through the typewriter when the last line to be typed on said paper reaches the typing position.
2. A bottom marginer for typewriters comprising a sheet of bendable material having bent-up top and side flanges with the top ends of said side flanges inturned to overlap the ends of said top flange, and a pair of slots disposed parallel to said side flanges adjacent the bottom edge of said sheet, said slots being adapted to receive fastening means for adjustably securing said sheet to the paper rest of a typewriter with the top flange of said sheet in position to act as a limit stop for the top edge of the paper being fed through the typewriter when the last line to be typed on said paper reaches the typing position, and said side flanges having slant shear cut ofis on their bottom ends to remove the corners thereof.
