M. S. CABBLL.
LUBRIGATOR PQR ENGINE SLIDES. No. 289,068. Patented Nov. 27, 1888.
www 15am- UNITED STATES PATENT rricn.
MILTON S. CABELL, OF QUINCY, ILLINOIS, ASSIGNOR OF ONEIIALF TO Y WILLIAM 'SCHAEFER OF SAME PLACE.
LUBRICATOR FOR ENGINE-SLIDES.
. SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 289,066, dated November 27, 1883.
Application tiled August 20, 1883. (No model.)
T0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MILTON S. CAELL, of Quincy, in the county of Adams and State of Illinois, have invented certain Improvements in Lubricators for Engineslides, of which the following is a specication.
The aim of my invention is to provide a simple and efficient means for lubricating the cross-head slides of steam-engines, pn inps, and similar machinery.
To this end the invention consists in combining with the slide an oil-reservoir connected to its side and communicating with an opening entering from one side and emerging from the face of the slide, whereby theoil is delivered to the wearing-surface of the slide and caused to work thence over all. the wearing-surfaces.
Referring to the accompanying drawings7 Figure 1 represents a vertical section of the crossehead and guides provided with my i1nprovement. Fig. 2 is a top plan view of the same.
Referring to the drawings, A represents an ordinary reciprocating cross-head; B B, the two parallel slides by which the ends of the 'crossheads-are sustained; C C, two oil-reserran gement it will be perceived that the oil, descending by gravity, will be delivered through the opening in the face of the slide in position to be acted upon by the cross-head, which serves to distribute the same over the entire length of the slide and to cause it to work downward over all the wearing-surfaces. The oil-reservoir may be of any ordinary or suitable construction. Each cup or reservoir is preferably connected with the pipe D by means of a screwjoint or other connection which will admit of its being readily detached. Each of the feed-pipes is preferably provided with a cock or equivalent device by which the :dow of oil may be regulated or stopped.
The essential feature of the invention consists in combining an oil-reservoir with a discharge-tube and a passage leading through the slide, substantialiy as described.
The details may be modified provided no departureis made from the mode of action herein described.
The present invention is restricted to those matters and things which are hereinafter claimed, and as to all matters which may be described or shown, but which are not claimed, the right is reserved to make the same the vsubject of a separate application.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is-
