1 Claim. (Cl. 40-1521) This invention relates to automotive vehicles and more particularly an accessory therefor.
It is an object of the present invention to provide a picture frame for automotive vehicles that may be releasably secured to the dash board of the vehicle without requiring a permanent installation procedure.
Another object of the present invention is to provide a dash board picture frame of the above type in which the picture may be readily changed, and which will enhance the beauty and appearance of the vehicle.
Other objects of the invention are to provide a dash board picture frame bearing the above objects in mind which is of simple construction, has a minimum number of parts, is inexpensive to manufacture and efiicient in operation.
For other objects and for a better understanding of the invention, reference may be had to the following detailed description taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawing, in which:
Figure 1 is a fragmentary perspective view of a picture frame made in accordance with the present invention in operative use within a vehicle;
Figure 2 is an enlarged front plan view, with parts broken away, of the device shown in Figure 1;
Figure 3 is an end elevational view of the device shown in Figure 2; and
Figure 4 is an enlarged fragmentary top plan view of the parts of the device shown in Figures 1 to 3.
Referring now more in detail to the drawing, a picture frame made in accordance with the present invention is shown to have a main base 11 and a platform 14 which is supported in vertically spaced relationship therewith upon a rigid post 12. Two longitudinally spaced apart pairs of securement pins or posts 16 are integral with and extend upwardly from the platform 14. These posts 16 define a longitudinal space for slidably receiving a pair of panels 20 between the respective posts in each pair. At least one of these panels 20 is transparent, both of which are preferably constructed of a plastic non-breakable material so as to enable a picture or photograph 22 that is sandwiched therebetween to be readily observed. Each longitudinal end of the platform 14 is provided with an upwardly turned lip 21 for limiting the longitudinal movement of the panels 20 and picture 22. A spring 17 extends across the upper ends of the posts 16 in each pair, each end of the spring being provided with a hook element 19 for releasably securing the spring in proper assembled relationship therewith.
The entire frame is releasably supported upon any metal surface, such as a dash board 25 of the vehicle 26 by means of magnets 24 which are in the form of longitudinally spaced apart feet which depend downwardly from the bottom suface of the main base 11. Preferably, these magnetic feet 24 are covered with a felt or other soft material so as to prevent the dash board or other surface from becoming scratched or marred.
It will thus be recognized that this device may be placed in any desired location on any metallic surface without permanently damaging or marring the equipment. In addition, it becomes a very simple matter to remove the spring 17 and the panels 20 to replace the picture 22 supported therebetween. Thus, this device is particularly suitable for use of vehicles such as automobiles, trucks, buses, and the like as well as boats, and aircraft.
While various changes may be made in the detail construction, it shall be understood that such changes shall be within the spirit and scope of the present invention as defined by the appended claim.
What I claim as new and desire to protect by Letters Patent of the United States is:
A picture frame for automobile vehicle dash boards comprising, in combination, a base, a platform supported upon said base, means releasably securing a pair of vertically disposed panels upon said platform, at least one of said panels being transparent for observing a photo graph sandwiched between said panels, a post integrally connecting and maintaining said base and platform in vertically spaced apart relationship, said means releasably securing said pair of panels in said spaced vertical relationship comprising two longitudinally spaced apart pairs of posts integral with said platform slidably receiving said panels and a photograph therebetween, a spring extending between each of said pairs of posts transversely of said panels, and an upwardly extending lip at each longitudinal extremity of said platform for limiting longitudinal movement of said panels.
