My invention resides in a comb operable for removing clippings from hedges and the like.

One of the objects of my invention is to provide a hedge comb with a plurality of teeth so constructed and arranged as to facilitate the removal of clippings from a hedge when the teeth are drawn through the hedge.

Another object of my invention is to provide a hedge comb of the foregoing described character which is simple in construction, durable in use, eiiicient in operation, economical in manufacture and capable of being used by others than skilled workers.

With the above and other objects in View, as will hereinafter appear, the invention consists in the combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter set forth and illustrated in the accompanying drawings from which the several features of the invention and the advantages attained thereby will be readily understood by those skilled in the art.

Referring to the drawings wherein like reference characters designate like parts throughout the several Views:

Figure 1 is a perspective view of my invention;

Figure 2 is a fragmentary front elevational view, partly in section, of the invention; and

`Figure 3 is a detail sectional view taken on line 3--3 of Figure 2.

As illustrated in the drawing, my novel form of hedge comb 5 comprises an elongated body 6 provided with a handle 7 at one end and constructed of aluminum or the like. The body 6 is formed in its top face T with a slot 8 in which are disposed the upper end portions 9 of a series of spaced depending wire teeth 10. The portions 9 of the teeth are bent at right angles to their respective bodies 11 and are wedged within the slot 8 by a suitable tool (not shown) when the teeth are bent and attached to the body, it being understood that the bodies 11, adjacent the portions 9, extend through vertical openings 12 formed in the body 6. lf desired, a clamping strip 13 may be wedged within the slot 8 to conceal the portions 9 and to insure retention of the portions 9 therein against displacement during use. The lower end portions 14 of the teeth are curved, for instance, at substantially 90, whereby they are adapted to extend in the direction towards the user and transversely relative to the body 6 as illustrated in Figure 3.

In use, after a hedge has been trimmed by the ordinary shears or cutter, the handle 7 is gripped by the hand of the user and the teeth moved through the hedge a combing manner to thus collect and remove the relative small clippings from the hedge which ordinarily tend to remain therein. By thus employing my novel type of comb, the hand of the user is protected from scratching by the relatively sharp clipped edges of the hedge during removal of the clippings. Furthermore, the front and rear faces 15 and 16 of the body 6 constitute leading and trailing faces, respectively, with the leading face being somewhat disposed towards the user during use of the comb and the lower end portions 14 of the teeth extending in a direction away from the trailing face as clearly illustrated in the drawing.

While I have disclosed my invention for use in conjunction with hedges, it is to be understood that the same may be used in the trimming of other various types of shrubbery, for instance, small trees and the like and be constructed of other suitable materials if desired.

Without further elaboration, the foregoing will so fully explain the invention that others may, by applying current knowledge, readily adapt the same for use under various conditions of service. Moreover, it is not indispensable that all the features of the invention be used con.- jointly since they may be employed advantageously in various combinations and subcombinations.

lt is obvious that the invention is not conined solely to the use herein disclosed in connection therewith as it may be utilized for any purpose to which it is adaptable. lt is therefore to be understood that the invention is not limited to the specic construction as illustrated and described, as the same is only illustrative of the principles involved which are capable of extended application in various forms, and the invention comprehends all construction within the scope of the appended claims.

What I claim is:

l. ln a hedge comb, an elongated body, a plurality of spaced teeth extending from said body and having coincident ends iixed to said body for movement therewith, said teeth being provided, at their opposite ends, with curved end portions extending transversely relative to said body to facilitate collecting and removal of cuttings from a trimmed hedge by said portions when the latter are combed through said trimmed hedge, said body being provided with a handle extending lengthwise from said body for maneuvering the latter over said hedge to eifect combing of said hedge by said portions, said teeth being substantially straight and of a definite and suicient length between said body and said end portions: to enable the hand of the user, while grasping said handle during said maneuvering, to be disposed out of range with the cut edges of said trimmed hedge during removal of said cuttings from said trimmed hedge.

In a hedge comb, an elongated body having front and rear faces constituting leading and trailing faces, respectively, during combing movement of said body relative to a trimmed hedge, a plurality of spaced relatively long teeth xed to said body and extending downwardly therefrom, said teeth being formed with curved end portions disposed transversely below said body and extending in a direction away from said trailing face with each of said portions having a curvature of approximately said portions being effective for collecting and removing cuttings from a trimmed hedge when said portions are combed through said trimmed hedge, said body being provided with a handle adjacent to and extending lengthwise from said body to facilitate manipulation of said body over said hedge to eifect combing of said hedge by said portions, said teeth being straight and of a definite and suicient length between said body and said end por tions to enable the hand of the user, while grasping said handle during said manipulation, to be disposed out of range with the cut edges of said trimmed hedge during removal of said cuttings from said trim med hedge.
