Description

May 19, 1959 Filed March 3, 1958 ATTORNEYS United States PatentOfi 2,886,842 Patented May 19, 1959 ice The present invention relates to a paint brush, and the object of the invention is to provide a paint brush of simple construction and which is particularly suited for non-professional work.
Another object of the invention is to provide a paint brush which is of light weight in relation to its size.
Paint brushes at present on the market are manufactured by inserting the bristles with their root end in a ring or open container and secured in same by vulcanisation, whereafter the container is closed by means of a lid or a plug having a handle.
In this procedure bristles of such a quantity that the container will be approximately filled has to be used to produce a brush with uniform bristles.
With the improvement in accordance with the invention the brush container is provided with a perforated base member, so that only a fraction of the cross section of the container is open for reception of bristles. With an appropriate position of the perforations or openings in the container, a uniform distribution of the bristles will, however, be achieved in spite of the fact that substantially less bristles are required for filling of the openings in the base member than is the case when using containers without perforated members.
In accordance with the invention the openings in the base member may preferably be annu In a simple embodiment of the invention the perforated base member is arranged in alignment with the lower or outer edge of the container. This will, however, in certain cases involve ditficulties, as paint which collects at A further feature of the invention consists in that the base member of the container is positioned inside the container, thus forming a rim ber around the outer side of same.
The invention may further be characterized in that the base member of the container is attached to the inner Fig. 2 is a Fig. 1.
Referring now to the drawings, the paint brush handle 1 has a cylindrical flange or cover portion 2 which is mounted within one end sectional view taken along line 22 of the plate 9", and annular ate the plate 9" achievement of a good result than provided by brushes having no such base member.
The sleeve 3 projects downwardly beyond the base plate 9 to provide a rim portion 12 which surrounds the outside periphery of the bristles 4.
As shown in 1 the connecting members 13 and 15 tions axially offset within said sleeve from the plane of said plates in the direction of said brush handle to provide continuous uninterrupted annular openings between said plates and between said annular plate and said sleeve, a plurality of bristles arranged continuously within said annular openings, the lower ends of said bristles extending downwardly beyond the lower edge of said sleeve and the upper ends of said bristles extending above the plane of said circular base plate and said annular plate, and means within said sleeve intermediate said circular base plate and said annular plate and the upper end of A said sleeve for securing the upper ends of said bristles to said sleeve.
2. A paint brush as defined in claim 1 wherein said means for securing the upper ends of the bristles to said sleeve comprises a layer of vulcanized material.
