Description

v s. GRAY'.
RBPRIGERATOR. Patented Nov. 13, 18,83.v
(No Model.)
HHH
WITNEssEs UNITED STATES' PATENT OFFICE.
SYLVESTER `GRAY,OFLONG ISLAND ITY, NEW` YORK.
REFRIGERAATOR.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters PatentNo. 288,427, dated November 13, 1883.`
` Application filed Augnst25, 1883. (N o model.)
To all whom, t may concern: p i
Be it known that I, SYLvEs'rER GRAY, a citi` zen of the United States, and a resident of Long Island City, in the county of Queens and State of New York, have invented a certain new and useful Improvementin Refrigerators; and I udo hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, .whichwill enable others skilled in the art to which it Aappertains yto make and usethe same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which forma part of this specification, and in whichy Figure l is a perspective view of a refrigerator `provided with my improvement, showingl the door open; and Fig. `2 is a vertical sectional view, on an enlarged scale, through the middle of the door on line x in Fig. 1. y
` Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both the figures. My invention has relation to refrigerators;
y and it consists in the improved construction of a refrigerator-door, as will be hereinafter more fully `described and claimed, whereby I dispense with the objectionable use of nails or tacks for fastening the zinc lining to the inside of the door.
In the accompanying drawings, A denotes the frame of my improved refrigerator-door,
which is grooved, as usual, for the insertion of the door-panel B. A
C is the door-band, which is made in four strips-one for each of the sides ofthe door,
one for the top of the same, and one for the botso as to iit closely together.
tom-the bands being mitered at thecorners, This door-band should be of a4 width corresponding to the thickness of the finished door, and has a double rabbet, D E, adapted to fit a double, rabbet in the door-jamb.` rIhe inner side of Athe door is .formed, as usual, by a sheet of zinc, G, the
edge of which is inserted into a narrow groove,
F, made on the inner side of the door-band C.
The illing shown at H is conned on one side by the door-frame A and the, panel B; on the other side, or the side facing the interior of the refrigerator, by the sheet of zinc G, and on the top and bottom and both sides by the doorband C. By this method of fastening the in side lining of the door-viz., by inserting its edges into the groove F in the door-band-it is securely fastened in place without the` use of nails or tacks,.which are apt to become.
`rusty or to get loose by shrinkage of the wood into which they are inserted, thus loosening the inside lining and letting the iilling out.
struction of my improved `refrigerator-door are those whichi'asten the door-band C and the door-frame A together, one of which is `'shown at I.
Having thus described my invention, I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States'- .Y
\ The improved refrigerator door herein shown and described, consisting of the outer door-frame, A, having panel B1, the double? rabbeted door-band C, encircling the doorframe, overlapping it on the inner side, and provided with the groove F, themetallic in `srLvEsTEE GRAY, Witnesses: v
