Description

l UNITED STATES PATENT )EEICE6 'HENRY M. sKINNEE, oE EocxEoED, ILLINOIS, AssIGNoE oE `oNE-HAIPE rro Rockwoon sAGER, or SAME PLAGE.
ROLLING Y COLTER.
SPECIFICATION formingpart of Iietters Patent No.1287,733, dated October 30, 1883.
' Application filed June 7, 1883. (No model.)
To a/ZZ whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY M. SKINNEE, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city of Rockford, in the county of Winnebago and State of Illinois, have invented new and useful Improvements in Rolling Colters, of which the following is a specication.
This invention relates tocolters of that class known yas the caster-rolling colter, and the obj ect of this invention is to produce at a small cost a caster-yoke connection ofthe colter with a bracketsupport,to permit alimited oscillatory movement of the colter, and capable of a lateral adjustment relatively with the plow-beam; and it consistsof an intermediate double socket, to connect the yoke with the supportingbracket, which is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and
will be hereinafter more fully described.
Figure lis an isometrical representation of a colter embodying my invention, and Fig. 2isa vertical central section ofthe connection in the plane ofthe colter-blade.
In the figures is represented a bracket-sup port prepared from bar material, bent in the form represented,'consisting of the vertical arm A and horizontal arm B. The'vertical arm A is designed to engage thevertical side of the plow-beam R, to which it is attached, and made adjustable thereon vertically and lengthwise of the beam,V by means of the usual screw-bolt clamping-staple, C, which embraces the parts. to receive a socket of a suitable construction to support the 'caster-yoke.
AtD is represented a socket rectangular in section, iitted `to receive the horizontal arm B of the bracket-support, on which it is made adjustable, and is fixed in place thereon when adjusted by means of a key, E, placed within the socket against the edge of the horizontal The horizontal arm B is designedv arm, which, when driven, will fix the socket securely in place. One end of this socket D is provided with a vertical tubular socket, F,
Ahaving its axis at'a right angleV to the axis of the rectangular socket D, and the upper end of this tubular socket, at H,v is fitted in clutch form. y
At I are represented the two arms of a bivfurcated caster-yoke, having a colter, K, of the usual form, mounted to` revolve between the arms on a suitable journal-bearingsupported in' the end offthe yoke-arms. The for- -ward end of the caster-yoke, at the junction of `the yoke-arms, is provided with a stud-journal, Nprising from its upper side, fitted to enter and oscillate in the vertical socket F, and is held in place by means of a holding-pin, P, passed through its projecting end, in position to engage the clutch portion H of the socket, to limit the oscillatory movements of the colter.
By means of the double socket intermediate portion, in connection with the bracket` l?, of the intermediate rectangular socket, D,
having a securing device, andavertical tubular socket, F, arranged at right angles to the axis of said socket D, and having a clutch, II, at its upper end, substantially as and for the purpose herein shown and described. Y
HENRY M. SKINNER.
