Description

J. MOGLENSEY. GAS BURNER.
No. 28,761; Patented June 19, 1860.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JAMES MCGLENSEY, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
GAS-BURNER.
Specification of Letters Patent No. 28,761, dated June 19, 1860.
To all whom 711 may concern:
Be it known that I, JAMES MGGLENSEY, of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have made certain new and useful Improvements in Gas-Burners for Heating \Vithout Smoke; and I do hereby declare the foll0wing to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, in which Figure 1, is a sectional view of my burner. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the same and Fig. 3 are views of the top or cover D.
A is the inlet pipe or jet. B a tube in which the gas entering from A and the air entering from the holes or openings C, C etc mix.
D is the cover or top to the tube B, furnished with minute holes to spread the gas.
The nature of my invention consists in the combination of the perforated cover D the tube B, the jet A and the holes C, C arranged as shown in the drawing. A burner constructed in this manner possesses the advantage of causing no smoke.
The burner instead of being screwed upon a stand may be screwed upon the ordinary gas pipe and thus be made to subserve a three-fold purpose: First, removing the tube B and the top D we have a simple light-giving burner A; second, adding the tube B we have a heating flame caused by the mixture of the air and gas in the tube B, and third by putting on the cover D We spread the flame so that it may be used for all heating purposes. I only claim the burner, however, when all the different parts are used, as in the third case. A light stand M is made, into which the burner screws. A stand P P of the shape and construction shown in the drawing is made so as to screw upon the tube at the point L. Upon this stand the vessel or substance to be heated is rested. Any form of stand, however, may be used.
Having thus described my improvement, what I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent is- The arrangement of the cover D provided with holes in the top to spread the flame, with the tube B, the jet A and the holes C C when used in the manner and for the purpose herein set forth.
JAS. MGGLENSEY. lVitnesses JAMES M. CAHEN, F. D. BAQUET.
