Definitions
- This invention relates to improvements in textile bobbins or spools and more particularly to textile bobbins or spools comprising an internal metal tube and an outer paper tube combined together, the top parts of both tubes being bent to form a device for holding an identification disk and the lower parts of them having a circumferential groove or a notch for engagement of a driving member.
- the object of this invention is to provide bobbins or spools of simple construction which can be manufactured at 10W cost but secure satisfactory results in operation.
- Another object of this invention is to provide bobbins or spools which do not spoil the thread being wound on the spool, and the outer tube of which can be replaced easily with a new one when it is spoiled or damaged.
- a further object of this invention is to provide bobbins or spools comprising an outer paper tube and an inner metal tube which are combined together with no neces sity of auxiliary attachment members.
- Figure 1 is a side View of the bobbin or spool of this invention, partly shown in section; and Figure 2 is a similar view of the bobbin or spool of another embodiment of this invention, partly shown in section.
- Fig. l, 1 designates a metal tube or wall of thin thickness and 2 a paper outer tube fitted over the outer surface of the metal tube 1.
- the upper prolongation of the paper tube 2 is bent as shown in the drawing to form a ring rim 3 having a section of a circle.
- the upper rim end of the metal tube is bent inwardly to form a flat end surface 4 which holds an identification disk 5 in cooperation with the ring rim 3 of the outer paper tube 2.
- the flat end surface 4 and the identification disk 5 have central holes 7 and 6 respectively. These holes are concentric and allow a spindle to pass through these holes.
- a notch 8 which engages a driving member (not shown) for the rotation of the bobbin or spool.
- a circumferential groove 9 is provided on the surface of the lower part of said tube. Such a groove may contribute to fixing the two tubes firmly, and also may be utilized for winding the beginning portion of the thread separately from the rest.
- attachment members When attachment members are employed, it is necessary to pay special attention to the attachment of the two tubes by these members, inasmuch as smooth and satisfactory rotation of the bobbin cannot be secured if the attachment by the auxiliary attachment members are not carried out correctly, especially when the rotation is made at a high speed. Since in the present invention the attachment members are eliminated, there will be no disadvantage as described above.
- the merits of the two materials, paper and metal are obtained by the combination of tubes of the two materials without making the construction complicated.
- the bobbin is comparatively light but still has suicient strength by the existence of the metal tube and the special bent ends of the tubes.
- the outer surface of the bobbin is of paper, and thus the disadvantages of a metal surface, such as spoiling of thread by rust of metal or the collapse or disturbance which may occur on the thread wound on the bobbin by the slip between the thread and the metal surfaces, may be completely eliminated.
- the metal tube is protected by the presence of the outer coating tube, which can be replaced easily, when spoiled, as described before.
- the groove made by squeezing the lower part of the tube will contribute to make the attachment of the two tubes secure and firm. It will also be useful for winding the beginning end of the thread in the groove to separate it completely from the rest of the thread on the proper body of the bobbin, for example, for the use of a magazine creel.
- a bobbin, with an identification disk comprising an outer paper tube including a top end constituting a ring rim of circular section, and an inner metal tube but it is the practice to use some including a circular at end, the outer paper tube having an internal bore for accommodating the inner tube, and said ring rim and said circular iiat end holding therebetween the identification disk.
- a bobbin as claimed in claim 1 in which the two tubes define corresponding notches adapted for engagement with a driving member which rotates the bobbin.
