2 Claims. (Cl. 24-123) The present invention generally relates to a rope buckle and more particularly a buckle for securing the ends of rope necklaces together so thatthe necklaces may be retamed around the necks of cattle or similar livestock.
An object of the present invention is to provide a rope buckle for adjustably and securely retaining a rope necklace around the neck of cattle and incorporates'a substantially V-shaped construction having the free ends of the legs thereof secured to the ends of the necklace and an identification tag supported from the center thereof thereby retaining the necklace and the tag on the animal in the desired position.
Another important feature of the present invention is to provide a rope buckle in accordance with the preceding object in which split clamp rings are provided for securely and positively attaching the rope buckle to the ends of the rope necklace.
Another object of the present invention is to provide a rope buckle which is extremely simple in construction, easy to use, well adapted for its particular purposes and relatively inexpensive to manufacture.
These together with other objects and advantages which will become subsequently apparent reside in the details of construction and operation as more fully hereinafter described, and claimed, reference beinghad to the accompanying drawing forming a part hereof, wherein like numerals refer to like parts throughout, and in which:
Figure 1 is a perspectiveview of the rope buckle of the present invention employed in conjunction with a rope necklace being assembled on an animal;
Figure 2 is a vertical sectional view taken substantially upon a'plane passing along section line 2-2 of Figure 1' illustrating the details of construction of the rope buckle and its association with the rope and identification tag; and
Figure 3 is a detailed sectional view taken substantially upon a plane passing along section line 3-3 of Figure 2 illustrating the details of construction of the bight portion of the buckle and the manner in which the wire rings secure the rope to the rope buckle.
Referring now specifically to the drawings, the numeral 10 generally designates the rope buckle of the present invention for incorporation with a rope necklace 12 disposed in encircling relation to the neck 14 of a cow 16 or any other animal.
The rope buckle 10 includes a substantially V-shaped member generally designated by numeral 18 which incorporates a pair of diverging legs or straps 2t! and 22 interconnected by a bight portion 24 with the legs 20 and 22 being flat and with the bight portion being substantially convex on the upper surface designated by numeral 26 and concave on the lower surface designated by numeral 28 thus rigidifying the bight portion of the member 18 and retaining the configuration thereof. Also, the convex surface 26 forms a bearing area for the upper edge of an aperture 30 inan identification tag 32 which may be of any suitable construction but which is made of metal or plastic with numerals or other identification indicia being embedded therein or stamped thereon.
Adjacent the free end of each of the legs 20 and 22 is provided a pair of longitudinally spaced and aligned openings designated by numerals 34 and 36. The opening 34 receives a portion of the rope necklace 12 while the free end thereof is then projected through the opening 36 substantially as illustrated in Figure 2. The free end of the rope 12 may be bound by any suitable binding designated by numeral 38 and the orientation of the aper- United States Patent 2,874,434 Patented Feb. 24, 1959 ice In order to assure permanent attachment of the buckle 10 to the rope 12, split ring wire fasteners 42 are provided which may be conventional hog rings disposed in position in encircling relation to the straps or legs 20 and 22 and either penetrating or encircling the portion of the rope 12 between the openings 34 and 36. The fasteners 42 are prevented from longitudinal movement by the provision of a pair or plurality of pairs of notches 44 in the side edges of legs 20 and 22. The device may be constructed of any suitable material which is corrosive resistant and also long lasting thus forming an efiective means for retaining the identification tag 32 in position and also for retaining the necklace 12 in neck encircling relation.
The foregoing is considered as illustrative only of the principles of the invention. Further, since numerous modifications and changes will readily occur to those skilled in the art, it is not desired to limit the invention to the exact construction and operation shown and described, and accordingly, all suitable modifications and equivalents may be resorted to, falling within the scope of the invention as claimed.
What is claimed as new is as follows:
1. A rope buckle comprising a substantially V-shaped member including diverging legs extending outwardly from a central bight portion, each of said legs having a pair of spaced apertures for receiving the free ends of a rope necklace, said apertures anchoring the rope to the buckle whereby the buckle will interconnect the ends of the rope necklace for retaining the necklace in position on the neck of an animal, an independent split wire fastener provided in encircling relation to each leg with each split wire fastener being secured to the portion of the rope between the spaced apertures for securing the rope to the buckle, each leg having notches in the side edges thereof for receiving the fastener and preventing movement of the fastener on the leg.

For use in combination with a one-piece rope necklace for encircling the neck of an animal and an identification tag of rigid material having an opening therein, a buckle interconnecting the ends of the rope necklace and suspending the tag below the neck of the animal, said buckle comprising a substantially V-shaped strap member having diverging legs interconnected by a bight portion having a convexly curved transverse surface for engaging the upper edge of the opening in the tag thereby proivding a rounded bearing surface for the edge of the opening .in the tag, each leg of said member having longitudinally spaced and aligned apertures for receiving the free ends of the rope necklace, and means attached to each leg between the apertures for engaging the rope necklace and binding the rope necklace in the apertures thereby anchoring the free ends of the rope necklace to the buckle.
