Be it known that we, GEORGE W. WELLS and J OSEPH PREUX, both of Southbridge, in the county of Worcester and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Eyeglasses, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.

Our invention consists in an eye-wire for a pair of eyeglasses, having a nose-guard combined with it, as particularly hereinafter described, and set forth in the claim.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a front view of one-half of apair of eye-glasses embodying our invention, and Fig. 2 is aperspective view, on a larger scale, of the connection between the lower part ofthe noseguard and the eye-wire.

Similar letters of reference designate corresponding parts in both figures.

A designates the eye-wire, and B the nose The eye wire is of ordinary construe tion, in that it is provided with a rigid post or projection, c, at the upper end of the nose guard; but near the lower end of the noseguard the eye-wire has a loop, a, rigidly secured to or formed upon it.

The upper end of the nose-guard is rigidly secured by a screw, 0, or otherwise, to the post or projection c, and the nose-guard exv is reverted and bent upward or backward, so as to form a tongue, I), which enters the loop a from the under side.

C designates the bow-spring, which is secured to the post or projection c by a screw, 0 or otherwise.

The attachment of the nose-guard at the top by a screw or otherwise to the post or projection 0 is sufficient to secure it to the eye-wire, while the lower end is so held in place by the tongue and loop as to be free to yield elastically to pressure, and thereby to be rendered more comfortable to the wearer and to have greater durability.

. What we claim as our invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

The. combination, with the eye-wire A, provided with a rigid projection, c, and loop a, of the nose-guard B, rigidly secured at its 50 upper end to the projection 0, extending downward therefrom to a point below the loop a, and having its lower end reverted or bent backward and upward to form a tongue, 12, which enters said loop from the under side 55 thereof, all substantially as and for the pur pose described.
