PROSTATE GLAND MASSAGER Filed May 29, 1957 34 F I G. 6
INVENTOR E .W. JOHNSON ATTORNEYS United States Patent n This invention relates to the care and treatment of. the human body and more particularlyto the treatment of various parts of the body therapeutically and otherwise and specificallyt o a therapeutic device for the treatment of the prostategland and associated parts.
It is well known that the prostate gland sometimes becomes acutely inflamed or enlarged, and requires attention and sometimes removal. Treatment of this and other glands of the body havebeen found to be of help and the present invention is concerned with such treatment and the equipment employed. i
is an object of the inventionto provide a relatively simple and inexpensive device for massaging the prostate gland and seminal vesicle, which may be used in the privacy of the home without the aid of a doctor or a nurse to thereby improve the health and wellbeing of the individual.
Another object of the invention is to provide a therapeutic device of the character indicated in which a cer tain amount of heat can be applied during massaging treatment of the prostate gland and similar parts of the human body.
A further object of the invention is to provide a kit including a case or container including a motor, a flexible cable, and a generally cylindrical massager having a spiral rib for contact with the gland or glands to he massaged, as well as an electrical heating element, a time clock, and other appropriate mechanism.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will be apparent from the following description taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawing wherein:
Fig. l is a perspective of a prostate gland massaging kit;
Fig. 2, a section on the line of 2-2 of Fig. 1;
Fig. 3, side elevation of the massaging element'per se;
Fig. 4, a transverse section on the line 44;
Fig. 5, a Wiring diagram; and,
Fig. 6, a section of the flexible cable and plug.
Briefly stated the invention is a kit for the massaging of the prostate gland and the small seminal vesicles and includes a relatively hard generally cylindrical member with a bulbous end and a spiral rib extruding along said member therefrom to a flared skirt at the opposite end of said member for limiting insertion thereof, said member being driven through a flexible cable from an electric motor in order to stimulate the flow of fresh blood through the tissues to restore normalcy and to eliminate various undesirable conditions such as infection and the like.
With continued reference to the drawings the device of the present invention comprises a generally cylindrical body having a slightly enlarged rounded or bulbous head 11 at one end and a tapered or frustro-conical skirt 12 at its opposite end for limiting the insertion of the device. Between the head and skirt is a spiral rib 13 such rib being provided for the application of force as it rotates. The device is intended to be both heated and 2,863,445 Patented Dec. 9, 1958 rotated with the heat supplied by a coil 14 through a pair of terminals 15 mounted in the rear plate 16 of the skirt 12 of the device and such terminals being adapted to be inserted in an electrical socket 17 connected with a source of energy such as an electric socket not shown by a cord 18 and a plug 19.
The body 30 is adapted to be mechanically rotated to produce the massaging action and in order to accomplish this result a socket 20 is provided in which the terminals 15 are adapted to be received, such socket having a polygonal opening 21 for reception of the complementary polygonal end 22 of a flexible cable 23 detachably received within the coupling 24 connected to a shaft 25 which extends into a gear reduction box 26 coupledto a motor 27 in a manner to drive the shaft 25 through such gear reduction. The flexible cable 23. is mounted in a flexible housing 28 detachably secured in place by threaded couplings 29 and 30 to the gear reduction box 26 and the rear portion of the handle or holder 33 in which the member 20 is rotatably mounted. The member 20 is retained in the holder 33 by means of a tension spring 34 in the form of a snap ring. By the disconnection of the threaded coupling 29 the flexible cable and its housing may be detached from the gear reduction mechanism 26.
The motor 27 and gear reduction mechanism 26 are contained within a casing orcontainer 35 having a removable cover 36 and adapted to be carried by a handle 37 secured in closed position by a staple and hasp 38. The kit is composed of the container 35 with contained mechanism and the flexible cable 23 and its casing 28 and the massager 10 and associated structure.
The socket 17 is mounted on a channel 39 within the container 35 and said container is also provided with a pair of switches 40 and 41 for controlling the heating element 14 and the motor 27, respectively, a light 42 being in the circuit with the heating element to indicate its operation. A timing device 43 may also be provided to control the length of operation of the heating element.
The device is designed for the specific treatment of the prostate gland and is intended to massage the same and the small seminal vesicle by being rotated at a relatively low rate of speed as for example, 8 ]R. P. M. The rib on the device bears against the prostate: gland causing the flow of fresh blood through the tissues in turn aiding it back to normal and the elimination of various infections or changes due to age thereby avoiding acute inflammation or enlargement requiring removal.
It will be obvious to those skilled in the art that various changes may be made in the invention without departing from the spirit and scope thereof and therefore the invention is not limited by that which is illustrated in the drawing and described in the specification, but only as indicated in the accompanying claims.
