G.A.BUSH.
FOUNTAIN. No. 286,261. Patented Oct. 9, 1883.
UNITED STATESA PATENT OFFICE.
GRANT A. BUSH, OF CLEAR LAKE, IOWA.
FOUNTAIN.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 286,261, dated October 9, 1883.
Application filed April 19, 1883.
To @ZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, GRANT A. BUSH, of Clear Lake, inthe county of Cerro Gordo and State of Iowa, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Fountains, of which the following is a clear, full, and eXact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making a part of this specification, in whichv ried it out.
In the drawings, A represents the basin of the fountain, in and above the center of which is secured an air-chamber, B, of any desired ornamental form or figure. From the top of this figure rises thetube C, through which the water issues to form the spray. This tube descends through the air-chamber to a point near its bottom. From the bottom of the basin A passes a tube, D, down to a point below the pump E and connected therewith, so as to supply the pump with Water from the basin. From the pump a tube, F, passes up to the air-chamber B, through which the water is drawn from the pipe E, and is forced into the (No model.)
airchamber, whence it escapes in a spray through the tube O. The pressure of rthe air in the chamber B causes a regular iiow of the water through the pipe E, and avoids the pulsation which would otherwise be caused by the action of the pumpv The pump is operated by the well-known means of a weight and clock-gearing. If the fountain be designed for outdoor use, a hole eight or ten feet deep should be made to receive the weight, and the fountain will play for about one hour for every foot of drop the weight has.
The basin A is placed at any desired height, andthe mechanism below. is inclosed in the cabinet G, made of any desired pattern.
I am aware that a fountain having-a hollow erating a pump-piston working in a cylinder having a bulb connected thereto, and also an air-chamber to steady the flow of water, are
old, and such I do not wish to be understood as claiming, broadly, as of my invention.
Having thus explained myinvention, what I pedestal containing clock mechanism for opclaim as new, and desire to secure by Letters In an ornamental fountain, the basin A, air-chamber B, placed above the basin, and tube C, in combination with the tubes D and F, cabinet G, and the pump E, with suitable mechanism for operating the same,'substan tially as and for the purpose set forth.
GRANT A. BUSH. Vitnesses:
D. XV. HURN, F. J. BUsn.
