Application March 11, 1957, Serial No. 645,335
4 Claims. (Cl. 312-140) This" invention relates'to a fastening means for display cases of the general type employedfor housing candies, cakes, cookies and the like, and has for its purpose to afford a practical and eflicient means for holding together and securing in place adjacent sections of such a display case and adjacent transparent panels.
A further purpose is to provide mechanism for fastening together and holding in position adjacent vertical and hroizontal transparent panels, and for engagement with both vertical and horizontal panels at the points where they meet.
Still another object of the invention is to afford a fastening means that is adjustable in such a way as to permit assembly and proper alinement of the transparent panels, after which the fastening means can be tightened to secure the panels and adjacent sections of the display case in position.
An additional purpose of the invention is to afford mechanism of economical construction which can be easily assembled, and which-functions to hold the transparent panels and adjacent sections of the case permanently in proper relationship.
To these and other ends, the invention consists in the construction and arrangement of parts that will appear clearly from the following description, when read in conjunction with the accompanying drawings, the novel features being pointed out in the claims following the specification.
In the drawings:
Fig. 1 is a plan view of a display case incorporating one embodiment of the invention;
Fig. 2 is a view in rear elevation of the same;
Fig. 3 is a View in side elevation;
Fig. 4 is a view in front elevation;
Fig. 5 is a vertical sectional view on line 5-5 of Fig. 1 looking in the direction indicated;
Fig. 6 is a vertical sectional view on line 6-6 of Referring more particularly to the drawings in which like reference numerals refer to the same parts throughout the several views, and particularly to Figs. 1 and 2, the display case includes a generally U-shaped unit or section including top transparent or glass panels 1, and adjacent display case units attached thereto, and including top glass panels 2, while 3 designates sliding doors at the rear of the 'U-shaped section of the case.
Referring to Figs. 5 and 6, the adjacent top glass panels 1 and 2 are connected by H-bars 4,,and in order to hold the adjacent top and side glass panels in place, there is provided fastening means that engages the. top panels 1 and 2,.the vertical side panels 5 and 6,. and is attached to a fixed part of the display case in such way as to permit assembling the glass panels and securing them tightly in position.
To accomplish this, thereis provided a U-shaped metal fastening bar 7, see Figs. 5 and 6, that is pivotally connected at 8 to a metal bracket 9 that is welded or otherwise fixedly attached to a metalchannel'member or clip 11 which engages the adjacent verticalgla'ss panels and is welded to the bottom wall of a horizontally disposed metal channel 12 which engages the adjacent top glass panels land 2.
The channel bar 7 is pivotally connected at it's-inner end to a flange 13 of a: bracket 14which is welded'or otherwise fixedly attached to a plate 15 which is fixedly mounted upon shelf bars 16, or other rigid part of the display case. The flange 13 is slotted to permit slight endwise movement of the channel bar 7 which is held in place after assembly by the bolt fastening means 17, while 18 designates a bolt fastening means for securing the channel bar 7 at its outer end to the bracket 9.
In assembling this portion of the structure, the channel bar 7 can be moved laterally in either direction about its pivotal points on brackets 9 and 13 until the vertical and horizontal glass panels are alined and engaged with the channels 11 and 12, following which the channel bar 7 can be adjusted to its normal position in right-angular relation to the glass panels, and the bolts 17 and 18 tightened to hold the parts in position. The two sections of the display case .are held together by plate 15, and at their lower portions by channel bars 19, see Fig. 6, which engage upstanding plates 21 of the respective sections of the display case at the base portions thereof, while the glass panels are retained at their lower edges by guide flanges on the base of the case as usual.
Referring to Figs. 8 and 9, the shelf bars 16, to which the plate 15 is attached, are secured by bolts 22 to the upright metal column supports 23.
Figs. 11 and 12 illustrate the structure for maintaining the vertical glass panels at the corners of the case, and including channel bars 24 and 25, that are welded or otherwise fixedly attached to each other, and arranged to engage the adjacent vertical glass panels in right angular relationship.
While the invention has been described in relation to the particular embodiment herein illustrated, it is not restricted to the details disclosed, and this application is intended to cover such modifications or departures as may come within the purposes of the improvement or the scope of the following claims.
We claim:
1. In a display case including adjacent top and side transparent panels, the improvement which consists in top and bottom U-shaped clips engaged with said top and side panels respectively, a side of the top clip being rigidly fastened to the base of the bottom clip, said clips being symmetrical and the inner edges of the sides of the top clip being in vertical alinement with the inner edge of the base of the bottom clip, a bracket rigidly secured to a side of the bottom clip, an elongated channel barpivoted to said bracket, and a rigid support to which the other end of said channel bar is pivotally connected.
2. In a display case including adjacent top and side transparent panels, the improvement which consists in top and bottom U-shaped clips engaged with said top and side panels respectively, a side of the top clip being rigidly fastened to the base of the bottom clip, said clips being symmetrical and the inner edges of the sides of the top clip being in vertical alinement with the inner edge of the base of the bottom clip, a bracket rigidly secured to a side of the bottom clip, an elongated channel bar pivoted to said bracket, a rigid support, a bracket fixed to said support, and fastening means pivotally connecting the other end of said channel bar and said last mentioned bracket.
3. In a display case including adjacent top and side transparent panels, the improvement which consists in top and bottom U-shaped clips engaged with said top and side panels respectively, a side of the top clip being rigidly fastened to the base of the bottom clip, said clips being symmetrical and the inner edges of the sides of the top clip being in vertical alinement with the inner 4. In a display case including adjacent top and side transparent panels, the improvement which consists in top and bottom U-shaped clips engaged with said top and side panels respectively, a side of the top clip being rigidly secured to the base of the bottom clip, said clips being symmetrical and the inner edges of the sides of the top clip being in vertical alinement with the inner edge of the base of the bottom clip, a bracket rigidly secured to a side of the bottom clip, an elongated channel bar pivotally connected at one end to said bracket, a rigid supporting plate, a bracket secured to said plate, a pin and slot connection between the other end of said channel bar and said bracket, and adjustable fastening means attaching said channel bar to said brackets.
