UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ALBERT GORRELL, or snnnvn, OHIO, ASSIGNOR or ONE-HALF TO anon-en CARL, or SAME PLACE.
SHOCK-COMPRESSO R.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 285,255, dated September 18, 1883.
Application filed August 15, 1883. (N0 model i To 00 whom it nmyconoern:
Be it known that I, ALBERT GoRRELL, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Shreve, in the county of Wayne and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Shock-Compressors, of which the following is a specification, ref erence being had therein to the accompanying drawings. 7
My invention relates to an improvement in ties for compressing bales, grain-shocks, 820.; and it consists in the clamp A, having the clutch and thumb-piece b and apertures 13 and O, the wire double hook D, and cordage E, and in the method of securing the tie, substantially asshown, and for the purpose described.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a side elevation thereof, and Fig. 3 is a plan "iew.
In my tie the curved clamp A is provided with the aperturesB O-the former for tying thereto the cord or wire E, as shown, and the latter for hooking therein the double hook D and with the thumb-pieceb, for loweringand securing the clamp and elevating and releasing it, as required; and it is also provided with the flaring clutch a, the end of which is flared into the form of a hook, over the inner curve of which hook the cord is passed, as shown at F, Fig. 3, where it is secured by the clutch a, the strain at B acting as a lever to compress it, and hence the tenacity with which the cord is secured or tied is in exact ratio to the resist ance ofi'ered.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim is- 1. A tie for securing bales, shocks, &c., by means of a cord and an apertured clamp and hook, substantially as shown and described.
2. The combination of the clamp A, hook D, and cord E, substantially as shown, and for the purpose described.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
, ALBERT GORRELL.
