3 Claims. (Cl. 40-132) This invention relates to an advertising display and more particularly to a displ-ay whi-ch is secured to a glass window or pane] so that it may be seen from both the inside and outside of the building.

In the past, advertising displays have been used in connection with glass windows or surfaces in which the display is secured to the inside of the window so that the advertising material can be seen from the interior `as Well as the exterior. In addition, some of the displays of this variety have been lighted so that the advertising material is visible at night.

The present invention is directed to an advertising display of this general type whereby the display is secured to a glass surface, such as a window, and is adapted to be lighted from within so that the advertising material can be seen from both the inside and the outside of the building.

More specifically, the display consists of a frame which is secured to the window and is provided with Ia pair of guideways within which a translucent display container is slidably mounted. The container itself is formed of two separate panels with the side edges of the panels being in contiguous relation and slidably engaged within the guideways of the frame. Each of the panels is adapted to contain advertising material and the body or central portion of the rear panel is offset from the central portion of the forward panel to provide a chamber between the panels.

The container is lighted by means of a light which is disposed within the chamber. The display is particularly adaptable for use with the glass panel of a door and, when used in this capacity, the light is actuated on opening of the door to illuminate the advertising material on the panels.

The present advertising display is of simple construction and can be readily installed on the glass window or panel. As the two panels are separate, one or both of the panels can be readily removed from the guideways in the frame to change the advertising material by either reinserting a new panel or changing the advertising material on the old panel and reinserting the same within the frame.

The drawings illustrate the best mode presently contemplated of carrying out the invention.

The drawings illustrate an advertising display 1 which is secured to the window or glass panel 2 of a door 3.

As best shown in Figs. 2 and 3, the display 1 includes a frame 4 which is formed of a pair of vertically extending, channel-shaped guide members 5 having the open sides facing toward each other to form spaced guideways. The upper ends of the guide members 5 are connected to- ICC 2 gether by an upper cross member o and the lower ends of the guide members 5 are connected together by a lower cross member 7.

The cross members 6 and 7 are each provided with horizontal flanges 8 and the flange 8 on the upper cross member 6 extends inwardly toward the glass: panel 2 while the -ange on the lower cross member 7 extends outwardly and serves to close off the lower end of the guide members 5.

A rubber strip 9 is secured to the inner face of each of the guide members S and serves to cushion the attachment of the frame to the glass panel 2. The frame is secured to the glass panel by a suitable adhesive which is applied to the rubber strips 9 andserves to bond the strips to the glass panel 2.

The frame 4 is Iadapted to support a generally translucent display container 10 which is formed of an inner panel 11 and an outer panel 12. The inner panel 11 has a generally dish shape and is provided with a peripheral flange 13 which extends outwardly from the sides of the panel. The body of the inner panel 11 is recessed to provide an end surface 14 which is adapted to contain advertising material to be displayed. The end surface 14 is spaced from the glass panel 2 so that raised or profile advertising material can be applied to the surface, if desired, without interfering with the attachment of the frame 4 to the glass panel 2.

The outer panel 12 is also provided with a peripheral flange 15 which is disposed in contiguous relation with the flange 13 of the inner panel. The contiguous flanges 13 and 15 on the side edges of the panels are adapted to be received within the guide members 5 on the frame 4. The panels 11 and 12 are held within the frame by the engagement of the lower ends of the panels with the flange 8 of the lower cross member 7.

The outer panel 12 is more deeply recessed than the inner panel 11 so that the end surface 16 is spaced outwardly from the end surface 14 of panel 12 to provide a Vchamber 17 therebetween. As in the case of end surface 14, advertising material is adapted to be applied to the end surface 16 of outer panel 12.

The panels 11 and 12 are adapted to be fabricated of a translucent material such as plastic or glass and the advertising material on surfaces 14 and 16 is illuminated by means of a light bulb 18 which is located within the chamber 17 between the panels. The light bulb 18 is engaged within a socket 19 which is supported from the wall of outer panel 12 by means of a bracket 20. Electrical leads 21 are connected to suitable contacts on the socket 19 and extend outwardly through a grommet 22 disposed in an opening in the outerpanel 12.

In order to light the light bulb 18 in accordance with opening of the door 3, the leads 21 extend upwardly from the advertising display and pass through eyelets 23 and are connected to a Contact 24 which is attached to leaf switch 25. The lower end of the leaf switch 25 is secured in an insulated manner to a plate 26 attached to door 3. The leaf switch 25 and plate 26 are housed within a bracket 27 which is secured to the face of thedoor on either side of plate 26. A lead 28, which is connected to a suitable source of power, is connected to a contact 29 which is secured to the plate 26 at a position located inwardly of the contact 24 of leaf switch 25. When the door 3 is closed, the upper end of the leaf switch 25 is adapted to engage the door header 30` and prevent engagement between contacts 24 and 29. As the contacts 24 and 29 are out of engagement when the door is closed, the electrical circuit to the light bulb 18 is open and the light bulb will not be lighted. However, as the door is opened, the leaf switch 25 will move inwardly to bring contact 24 into engagement with Contact 29 to close the circuit and light the light bulb. The reverse procedure occurs as the door is closed in that the circuit will be opened when the upper end of the leaf switch contacts the door header 30.

The advertising display of the invention provides a display which is lighted as the door to which it is attached is opened. The display is a type of impulse advertising which is designed to attract the attention o-f a person entering or leaving a place of business, for the display is lighted up in the persons f-ace as he is opening the door to either enter or leave the place of business.

The display is easily installed on the glass window of the door and the advertising material can be secn from both the inside and outside of the building.

As the panels 11 and 12 are separate from each other, they can both or individu-ally be removed from the frame so that the advertising material can be readily changed. In this regard, the advertising material on the faces 14- and 16 can be either removed and new material placed thereon or both of the panels 11 and 12 can be replaced with new panels having different advertising material.

Various modes of carrying out the invention are contemplated as being Within the scope of the following claims particularly pointing out and distinctly claiming the subject matter which is regarded as the invention.

I claim:

1. In combination with a transparent yglass surface, a frame having spaced guideways with the guideways having open ends and closed ends, a resilient pad att-ached to a surface of the frame, adhesive means for attaching the pad to the glass surface, a recessed member having an end surface and side walls 4and an open end opposite the end surface, said recessed member provided with iianges extending outwardly from opposite side walls, a second recessed member having an end surface and side Walls and an open end opposite the end surface, said second recessed member having side Walls of greater depth than the first recessed member and having the open end facing in the same direction as the open end of the first recessed member to position the end surfaces of said members in spaced relation and provide a chamber therebetween, said second recessed member having flanges on opposite side walls with the flanges disposed in contiguous relation with the flanges on the first recessed member and the contiguous lianges serving as guides and being slidably disposed within the guideways on said frame to removably secure the recessed members in the frame, and illuminating means disposed Within the chamber for illuminating the end surfaces of the recessed members.

2. In combination with a transparent glass surface, a

frame having spaced guideways with the guideways having open ends and closed ends, means for removably securing the frame to the glass surface, a recessed panel having an end surface and side walls and an open end opposite the end surface, said recessed panel provided with flanges extending outwardly from opposite side walls and disposed in a plane parallel to said end surface, a second recessed panel having an end surface and side walls and an open end opposite the end surface, said second recessed panel having side walls of greater depth than the first panel and having the open end facing in the same direction as the open end of the first panel to position the end surfaces of said panels in spaced relation and provide a chamber therebetween, said second panel having flanges on opposite side walls and disposed in a plane parallel to the end surface of said second panel, the anges of said second panel being in contiguous relation with the flanges on the iirst panel and the contiguous flanges serving as guides and being slidably disposed Within the guideways on said frame to removably secure the panels in the frame, and illuminating means disposed within the chamber for illuminating the end surfaces of the panels.

3. An advertising display, comprising a door having a transparent glass surface, a frame removably secured to the glass surface and having guideways on opposite edges thereof, means for removably securing the frame to the glass surface, a recessed member having an end surface and side walls :and an open end opposite the end surface, said recessed member provided with iianges extending outwardly from opposite side Walls and disposed in a plane parallel to said end surface, a second recessed member having an end surface and side walls and an open end opposite the end surface, said second recessed member having side walls of greater depth than the first recessed member and having the open end facing in the same direction as the open end of the first recessed member to position the end surfaces of said members in spaced relation and provide a chamber therebetween, said second recessed member having ilanges on opposite side walls and disposed in a plane parallel to the end surface of said second recessed member, the flanges of said second recessed member being in contiguous relation with the flanges on the rst recessed member and the contiguous iianges serving as guides and being slidably disposed within the guideways on said frame to removably secure the recessed members in the frame, illuminating means disposed Within the charnber for illuminating the end surfaces of the recessed members, and switch means actuated on opening of the door for energizing said illuminating means and lighting the end surfaces of the recessed members.
