COATING ARTICLES IN |MlTA TlON OF MOSS-BARK.
SPECIFICATION formingpart of Letters Patent No. 284,771, dated September 11, 1883,
' Application filed March 31,1883. (N0 model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, OTTOMAR SPEIssER, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Methods of Coating Articles in Imitation of Moss-Bark, of which the following is a specification.
The object of this invention is to provide an improved covering for flower-pots, florists frames, and other fancy articles in imitation of moss-bark; and the invention consists, first, in coating the article with an irregular layer made from sawdust, paste, and oXblood, and then spattering the surface of the same with white, green, or other paint.
.In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 represents a front view of a piece of wood covered with imitation moss-bark, and Fig. 2 is a vertical transverse section of the same.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
In carrying out my invention a stiff mixture of sawdust, glue, paste, and oX-blood is made, and then spread in a layer, B, of irregular thickness over the surface A to be coated. Equal quantities ofliquid glue, paste, and ox-blood are used, and mixed with a sufficient quantity of sawdust until athickly flowing mass is obtained. After the layer B of white and green paint is spattered over the surface, which receives thereby the characteristic appearance of moss-bark. This covering layer may be used with advantage for a number of ornamental articles, such as florists frames, flower-pots, and the like.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. The method herein described of coating fancy articles in imitation of moss-bark, which consists in first applying to the surface of the articles an irregular coating or layer of a mixture of sawdust, glue, paste, and '0Xb1ood, and then spattering over the surface of the coating a paint of proper color, substantially as set forth. v I
2. A flower-pot, florists frame, or other article coated with an irregular layer of sawdust, glue,- paste, and ox-blood, painted in imitation of moss-bark, substantially as set forth.
In testimony thatI claim theforegoing as my invention I have signed my name in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
