Description

July 15, 19 58 A. J. EPLING DEVICE FOR APPLYING PASTE TO PERFATAPE Filed Nov. 2, 1956 flrna/a' J [Pliny Y 177' ORNEY United States Patent DEVICE FOR APPLYING PASTE T0 PERFATAPE Arnold J. Epling, Le Mars, Iowa Application November 2, 1956, Serial No. 620,049 4 Claims. (Cl. 118-413) My invention relates to a device for applying paste to perfatape, or other similar tapes.
An object of my invention is to provide a device in which the perfatape or other tape is first thoroughly saturated with water, which saturated tape will then pass beneath the relatively thicker paste, thereby causing the paste to adhere more intimately with the tape, and so that the tape can then be readily applied to the structure corner.
A further object of my invention is to provide associated means for adjusting the amount of paste applied to the tape, as well as further adjusting means for regulating the water saturation point in the device.
A further object of my invention is to provide an arrangement which can be readily cleaned, and is simple in construction.
With these and other objects in view, my invention consists in the construction, arrangement, and combination of the various parts of my device, whereby the objects contemplated are attained, as hereinafter more fully set forth, pointed out in my claims, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is a sectional view taken substantially along the lines 1-1 of Figure 2, and
Figure 2 is a plan view of Figure 1.
My invention contemplates the provision of a suitable device for rendering the application of perfatape very convenient and whereby the need for brushes and other cumbersome tools will be eliminated.
I have used the character to designate a pair of spaced vertically positioned converging side walls made of suitable metal or other material, the character 11 indicating a bottom wall, the character 13 an end wall, and the character 14 a forward wall.
I have further used the character 15 to designate an opening at the bottom of the wall 14, the wall 14 sloping substantially as shown, and I have used the character 16 to indicate a pair of channels which frictionally engage the sides of a slide member 17 having the grasping flange 18.
Attached to the bottom wall 11 are a pair of ears 19 having the openings 20 through which openings can be driven nails to firmly secure the device to the floor at any desired location, and attached at 21 to the Walls 10 are the brackets 22 having a series of downwardly sloping slots 23.
Received in any :of the slots 23 and at the lower terminals thereof is a shaft 24 which can include the expanded ends as shown, the shaft 24 passing through a roller support 25.
Spaced from the wall 13 is a partition 26 which is cut away at 27 to receive a further roller 28 having the shaft 29, the ends of the shaft 29 being received in the slots 30 which are provided in the spaced flanges 31 which are secured to the wall 26, the flanges 31 serving to maintain the perfatape in alignment.
Passing through the pair of converging straps 33 to which is secured the transverse angle member 34 is a tape which is indicated by the character 38 comes in the usual roll form which roll is wrapped about the core 39, the core resting upon the roller 25, the chamber between the walls 13 and 26 first being filled with water indicated by the character 40. The function of the water is to elficiently moisten the tape so that it will strengthen the same and provide means whereby the paste will more uniformly adhere.
The character 41 indicates the paste which is to be applied which is in a relatively thicker form and will appear substantially as shown in Figures 1 and 2 at the forward end of the vessel, the perfatape 38 passing through the slot 15 and beneath the paste 41.
The paste 41 by means of this device will readily adhere to the perfatape, and after the perfatape has been pulled out of the vessel a sufiicient distance for the required length of the joint, it can be torn off as long a jagged line- 42 as shown in Figure 2 when it will then be ready to apply to the joint, in this way not requiring any brushes or such tools, and at the same time insuring a uniform coating of necessary paste. 7
The member 17 can be raised or lowered to open or close the space at 15 so that a thinner or thicker coat of paste can be applied as desired.
Also the depth of saturation of the spool can be regulated by merely placing the shaft 24 in any of the slots 23 to thereby regulate the vertical height of the roller 25. The roller 37 provides means whereby the tape 38 will pass along the bottom of the container, and it will be noted further that the entire unit having the straps 33, etc., can be removed for cleaning by merely removing the rod 32.
It will now be noted that I have provided the advantages mentioned in the objects of my invention with further advantages being apparent.
Some changes may be made in the construction and arrangement of the parts of my invention without departing from the real spirit and purpose of my invention, and it is my intention to cover by my claims any modified forms of structure or use of mechanical equivalents which may be reasonably included within their scope.
I claim as my invention:
