3 Claims. (Cl. 248--88) This invention relates to garden spraying devices, and particularly to constructions designed to hold the nozzles of garden hoses in various selective positions of angular elevation for desired periods of spraying.
An object of this invention is to provide a carrier or holder adapted to receive nozzles of varying lengths, and having couplings of varying diameters.
Another object is to provide such carrier with readily releasable means to positively retain a nozzle therein.
A further object is to pivotally mount said carrier on an elevated bracket, and thus afford selective variation of the direction of discharge from the nozzle.
Still another object is to pivotally attach to said bracket an elongated arm bearing a latch element effective on the carrier to positively maintain the latter in selective positions of angular elevation about its pivotal axis.
These and other objects are attained in the construction herein described and illustrated by the accompanying drawing, wherein:

Fig. 4 is a horizontal section on the line 4-4 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 5 is a horizontal section on the line 5-5 of Fig. 2.
In these views a vertically disposed, elongated rod 1 rigidly mounts upon its upper end a bracket 2, and is provided with a foot-rest 3, whereby its lower portion may be pressed into the ground.
Said bracket has upwardly extending ears 2a upon and between which aligned pivot elements 4 mount a nozzle-carrier 5. The latter is formed with elongated, substantially parallel side-walls 6 integrally joined by a bottom wall 7, having its forward end portion upwardly bent at 8 between the forward edges of said side-walls and downwardly notched at 8a, such notch receiving and supporting the spray-adjusting barrel of a nozzle 9 coupled to a hose 10. Nozzles commonly available vary as to the diameters of their coupling members (90), and peripheral portions of the larger couplings are accommodated by opposed, rectangular apertures 11 in said side-walls.
Dislodgement of the nOZZle from the carrier is preeluded by a sheet metal retainer 12, having a notched tongue 13, integrally carried at the forward ends of parallel arms 1 1, the latter being pivotally mounted at 15 to said side-walls. Such retainer is formed of resiliently flexible material, and its arms have outwardly bowed portions 14a and are thus adapted to stress between them the side-walls 6 to maintain the eifective lowered position of the retainer. Swinging the retainer forwardly and downwardly about its pivotal axis, causes said retainer to straddle the side-walls, thus affording engagement of the notched tongue 13 with the nozzle beatent O tween the spray-regulating barrel 9 and coupling member 9a.
Extending downwardly from the side-walls 6, in the same plane therewith, and rearwardly of said bottom wall, are spaced, duplicate projections (in having their rear edges spanned by a wall 16, notched at 1611. An upper extension 16b of said rear wall is bent forwardly between the walls 6 to form a hose-supporting platform, thereby averting acute and detrimental bending of the hose at a critical point adjoining its connection with the nozzle.
Selective, angular elevational positions of the nozzle (retained in the carrier 5) are afforded by a row of holes 17 in the lower portion of one of the side-walls 6, extending rearwardly from one of the pivot elements 4. As the carrier is rearwardly and downwardly swung about its pivotal axis, each of said holes 17 becomes registrable, in rearward succession, with a latch pin 18 borne by a resiliently flexible elongated arm 19. Said arm is pivotally attached at 19a to the aforesaid bracket 2, and has a finger grip 20 by which it may be swung on said pivot, and flexed to engage or disengage said pin with and from said holes 17. This arrangement affords the carrier 21 range of selective angular positions about its pivotal axis from the horizontal to approximately thirty degrees above the horizontal. The de scribed swing of said carrier is limited by the aforesaid rear wall 16, the notch 16a of which, in such ultimate rotation receives the rod 1, this final position elevating the nozzle to about sixty degrees above the horizontal.
What I claim is:
l. A device for holding the nozzle of a hose, said device comprising an elongated substantially vertical rod, a bracket rigidly surmounting said rod, a carrier having side-walls and a bottom wall between and upon which such nozzle is received, means pivoting the carrier on the bracket for up and down travel, means to maintain said carrier in selective positions of said travel, a retaining member including a plate having a nozzle receiving notch, a pair of spaced arms integrally joined with and carrying said plate, the end portions of said arms being parallel, pivot means mounting the respective arms upon the respective side-walls and affording up and down swinging travel of said retaining member to and from a use position in which said plate is engaged between said side-walls and said notch receives a nozzle immediately forward of the coupling member of such nozzle, and the parallel end portions of said arms resiliently stress said side walls to maintain such use position.
2. A device as set forth in claim 1, said carrier and retainer being formed of resiliently flexible sheet material, and said arms being formed at their center portions with arcuate bows to intensify said stressing of the side walls by said end portions.
3. A device as set forth in claim 2, said central portionsof said arms being oppositely bowed outwardly from said side-walls whereby said end portions stress said side walls against said plate.
