Description

(No Model.) I
D. SHIVE.
WATCH REGULATOR.
. 'itmsszsz Patented Aug. 2 8,. 1883.
I gnhmtur:
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
DAVID srnvn, or PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA, ASSIGNOR or one HALF TO B. F. nu BOIS, or SAME PLACE.
WATCH-REGULATOR.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 284,079. dated August 28, 1883.
Application filed May 4, 1881. Renewed April 17. 1883. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, DAVID SHIVE, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city and county of Philadelphia, State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and'useful Improvement in \Vatch-Regulators, which improvement is fully set forth in the following specification and accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a face view of the regulator embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section thereof in line 00, Fig. 1.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the two figures.
My invention consists of the index of the regulator connected *to a pivotal arm and capable of motion independent of said arm, whereby provision is made for delicate or fine adjustment or regulation of the watch.
Referring to the drawings, A represents the bridge of a watch, which generally is of wellknown form and construction, and B represents the regulating-arm, which is pivoted to said bridge and formed with a pivoted neck,
. a, to which is connected the index 0, it being noticed that said indexhas a motion independent of the arm B.
From the end of the arm 13 there rises lugs D D, between which the index is fitted, and passed through one .of the lugs is a set-screw, E, the point of which is adapted to press against the index.
F represents a spring, which is secured to the arm B and bears against the index on the side opposite to the screw E,'so that while the index may be moved in one direction by the screw E, its return or opposite motion may be effected by the spring F, the screw E being first released.
It will be seen that by this provision, while the index may be moved with the arm 13 for primarily regulating the watch, the delicate regulation thereof is accomplished by operation of the screw E, which, assisted by the spring F, enables me to set the index with nicety and delicacy. Furthermore, owing to the small size of the index, the employment of the screw and spring on opposite sides thereof obviates piercing and weakening of the index, said screw and spring being disconnected therefrom.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. An arm pivoted to the bridge, in combination with an index pivoted to said arm and having a motion independent thereof, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
2. An index, in combination with a screw and spring, and a pivoted arm on which said index has independent motion, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
3. The arm with lugs D D, the index O, screw E, and spring F, combined and operating substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
DAVID SHIVE.
