4 Claims. (Cl. 224-2) This invention relates to improved holster sets and more particularly to such sets especially suitable for use as childrens toys.

One important object of the present invention is to provide an improved holster set readily and easily convertible from. one form in which it simulates western or cowboy attire, and can house a long barreled pistol, to a smaller and more compact form, for housing a snubnosed, police, or detective type pistol.

This and other objects are accomplished by the present invention, one embodiment of which comprises a small, trim holster having a mounting flap attached to its upper edge which may be folded over a supporting strap and snap fastened to the reverse side of the holster. In addition, the set includes a relatively large, fiat panel conforming in general outline to the shape of the holster, and provided with a pocket at its lower V end to receive the lower end of the holster. -Simple and convenient means are provided to secure the small holster in the pocket and in place upon the panel to create an effective western, or cowboy appearing holster.

The invention will be described in greater detail in connection with the accompanying drawings of which:

Referring now to the drawings wherein is shown a preferred embodiment of the invention, the reference numeral 10 designates generally a complete holster set comprising a small, open bottom holster 12 and an auxiliary panel 14. The small holster 12 may conveniently be made of a single sheet of natural or artificial leather bent around upon itself and riveted as by a pair of rivets 16 to form an open-ended holster body. The abutting portions of the sheet are' preferably sewed together between the rivets 16 to reinforce the holster and to provide a line of stitching 18 to improve its appearance. A supporting flap 20 is attached as by a pair of rivets 22, or other fastening means to the upper edge of the holster 12. This flap 22 is provided with an extending tongue 24 at its upper end, and a snap spring fastener member 26 of any known typeis secured in the tongue 24. A receiving member 28 for the snap spring fastener member 26 is secured in the web of the holster 12 facing y panel.

l2 rearwardly and positioned to engage the snap spring member 26. Thus, the flap 20 may be folded over a supporting belt 30 and snap fastened tothe reverse of the holster 12 to support the holster upon the belt.

A gun retaining strap 32 is also provided to secure a gun 34 against accidental removal from the holster. This retaining strap 32 is securely fastened as by a rivet 36 upon the reverse side of the holster 12 and extends through a slot in the web of the holster directly behind the gun 34. At its free end, the strap 32 is provided with a snap spring fastening member 38 for engagement with the outer face of the holster, a coacting member 40 for the member 38 being secured permanently upon the face of the holster 12 in position to receive the member 38.

The holster 12, as shown in Fig. 4, may be mounted on a gun belt 30 and is particularly adapted for use with a short barreled gun 34 such as may be carried by policemen or detectives, producing a neat and trim appearance. The holster may also be readily concealed upon the person as by mounting it on a shoulder strap, or in any other position, as desired.

The holster is readily convertible to a bulkier, western type form by the addition of the auxiliary panel 14 to the basic holster 12. The auxiliary panel 14 comprises a single sheet of a material such as natural or artificial leather, cut to conform to but being substantially larger than the general outline of the holster 12. 44 and 46 which are inserted through longitudinal slots 48 and 50 near the lower end of the panel 14 and secured to the reverse side of the panel by a pair of rivets 52 and 54. The lateral end ofthe pocket 42 opposite from the

44 and 46 is secured to the panel 14 by another pair of rivets 58 to form arounded pocket of a size readily to receive the lower, small end 60of the small holster 12.

The manner of attachment of the strap 32 to the holster 12 and of the pocket member 42 to the panel 14 (by passing the end of the strap 32 through a slot in the rear portion of .the holster, and by passing the

44 and 46 through slots in the panel 14) provides for smooth, uninterrupted surfaces within the pocket 42 and within the holster 12, so that insertion and withdrawal of a gun within the holster, and of the holster within the pocket are not obstructed.

Near its upper end the panel 14 is provided with a transverse slot 62 of a size to permit passage of the tongue 24 of the ap 20. This slot permits ready attachment and removal of the small holster 12 from the panel 14 without the use of any auxiliary parts or fastening means other than the pocket 42 and the snap spring fastener 26-28.

The holster set according to the invention maybe readily and easily changed from a small, compact appearing holster, as shown in Fig. 4, particularly suited for carrying a snub-nosed pistol 34, to a western style, as shown in Fig. 1, adapted for carrying a western type pistol 34. To accomplish the conversion, the flap 20 is unsnapped from the reverse side of the holster 12, the panel 14 is placed behind the holster 12 and the nose, or lower portion 60 of the holster 12 is fitted into the pocket 42 of the panel. The tongue 24 of the flap 20 is then inserted from the rear through the slot 62 of the Vpanel 14 and again secured by the snap fastener -26 to the The holster set is particularly suited for guns of the interchangeable barrel type, such as the gun 34, illustrated, having both a short barrel 70 and a long barrel 72. The holster set may advantageously be sold in a kit including the gun 34 and the belt 30, which is provided with a cartridge-holding looped band 74. It will be appreciated, of course, that the fastening means for the various parts of the holster set are not critical in the practice of the invention, and that any other convenient fastening means may be substituted for the specific rivets and stitching shown and described herein. The rivet type of fastening has been illustrated herein because it is relatively inexpensive and well suited for economical assembly methods, and is generally fully satisfactory for toy holster sets.

What is claimed is:

1. A holster set comprising an open bottom holster of trim and compact appearance and of a size conveniently to house a snub-nosed pistol or the like, a at panel larger in its hat dimensions than said holster, said panel having a projecting pocket shaped to receive the lower end of said holster and to fit therearound, and means carried by said panel and said holster for removably securing said panel to said holster when the bottom portion of said holster is positioned within said pocket.

2. A holster set comprising an open bottom holster of trim and compact appearance and of a size conveniently to house a snub-nosed pistol or the like, a supporting ap secured to the upper edge of said holster and having its free end shaped to form a relatively narrow tongue, releasable fastening means to secure said tongue to the reverse side of said holster when said ap is folded over upon itself, a flat panel larger in its flat dimensions than said holster and of generally similar outlinevto said holster, said flat panel defining an aperture of a size to receive said tongue and being attachable to said holster by folding said iiap over the upper edge of said panel and passing said tongue through said aperture and fastening said tongue to the reverse side of said holster, and means for securing the lower end of said holster to said panel when said holster is thus attached to said panel by said flap.

3. A holster set comprising an open bottom holster of trim and compace appearance and of a size conveniently to house a snub-nosed pistol or the like, a ilat panel larger in its fiat dimensions than said holster and shaped generally to conform in outline to the shape of said holster, a web member securely attached to said panel near the lower end thereof and defining in conjunction with said panel a projecting pocket shaped to receive the lower end of said holster and to tit therearound, and fastening means carried by said holster and said panel for removably securing said panel to said holster.

A holster set comprising an open bottom holster of trim and compact appearance and of a size conveniently to house a snub-nosed pistol or the like, a supporting flap secured to the upper edge of said holster and having its free end shaped to form a relatively narrow tongue, releasable fastening means for securing said tongue to the reverse side of said holster when said flap is folded over upon itself, and a ap panel larger in its iiat dimensions than Asaid holster and shaped generally to conform to the shape of said holster, said flat panel defining an aperture of a size to receive said tongue and to allow said tongue to pass through said panel, a web member securely attached to said panel near the lower end thereof and defining in conjunction with said panel a projecting pocket shaped to fittingly receive the lower end of said holster, said panel being releasably but securely attachahle to said holster by inserting the lower end of said holster into said pocket, folding said flap over the upper edge of said panel, passing said tongue through said aperture, and fastening said tongue to the reverse side of said holster.
