9 Claims. (Cl. 229-28) This invention relates to improvements in display cartons.
It is an object of the invention to provide an improved collapsible box for shipping and displaying a number of articles, and for holding the same in spaced relation.
A carton embodying the invention in a preferred form will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawing and features forming the invention will be pointed out in the appended claims.
in the drawing:
Figure 1 is a flat view of a blank for forming the carton of the invention;
Figure 2 shows the blank after the first fold;
Figure 3 shows the blank after the second fold, producing the collapsed carton;
Figure 4 shows the reverse of the collapsed carton of Figure 3;
Figure 5 is a perspective of the carton set up, for filling.
Figure 6 is a section on the line 6-6 of Figure 5, showing a display panel folded over for shipment; and
Figure 7 is a section on the line 7-7 of Figure 5.
The blank of Figure 1 comprises an aligned series of panels, identified by the odd numerals 1 to 17, inclusive, and foldable on the fold lines, identified by the even numerals 2 to 16, inclusive, which fold lines are scored or scored and partially cut in the usual way. Lateral supporting flaps 17' are joined to panel along fold lines 18 and end closure flaps 19, 21 and 23 are joined to the panels 11, 7 and 5 along fold lines 20, 22 and 24, the flaps 23 being provided with tuck in flaps 25 joined to them along the fold lines 26.
In folding, the terminal panel 17, which is a glue flap, is prepared with adhesive over the area A, indicated in phantom on the reverse of the blank, and the panel 3 is provided with adhesive over the area B, indicated in phantom on the upper face of the blank. The first fold is along the fold line 12 and brings panels 13, 15 and 17 over panels 11 and 9, as indicated, the adhesive over the area A now being uppermost. The second fold brings the structure to the left of fold line 8 over, so that the ready reverse of panels 13, 15 and 17 overlies panels 3, 5 and 7,
the adhesive joining the glue flap 17 to the panel 7 and the panel 13 to the panel 3. Panel 5 is provided with a number of cut outs 30 and panel 15 is provided with a number of cut cuts 31, arranged to form article holding apertures when the carton is set up. The setting up is accomplished in the usual way by applying pressure against the fold line 10, erecting the box into a rectangular structure. The lateral supporting flange elements 17 are now turned down and the end closure flaps are tucked in to form the structure shown in Figures 5 to 7, inclusive. Apertures 3d are now positioned above the apertures 31 in the panel 15, which forms a shelf intermediate between the bottom panel 9 and top panel 5 of the rectangular box structure. Panel 3 extends up vertically in parallelism to panels 11 and 13 of the back of the box structure and supports the display panel 1.
The articles to be displayed and shipped may be any desired articles and they are indicated in phantom in Figure 6. They are inserted through the openings 30 and 31 and the display panel 1 is folded over, as shown in Figure 6. The package will be completed for shipment by an outer carton or box in the usual way. It will be observed that the various articles held in the display container are positively held in spaced relation to each other and are protected against shock and damage in shipping as well as being placed for display on the counter after shipment.
As will be apparent, the number, size, shape and alignment of the cut outs 30 and 31 may be varied according to the merchandise to be held or shipped. The cut outs 31 may also be made smaller and of a different configuration than the cut cuts 30, where the articles shipped and displayed are of a shape to require this. In general, the cut outs are so placed as to be aligned vertically over each other when the box is set up.
What is claimed is:
1. In a carton, a rectangular partitioned structure comprising a series of six connected panels, the second panel from one end of the series being folded back onto and lying flat against the third panel thereof, the fourth, fifth and sixth panels forming together with the second and third panels a rectangular box structure, the first panel being joined to the second panel along a fold line spaced from the fourth and sixth panels and forming a partition between the same, and the first panel and sixth panel having aligned apertures for holding articles.
2. A carton according to claim 1, comprising also a glue flap joining the said first panel to the said fifth panel.
3. A carton according to claim 1, comprising also end closure flaps and flaps at the ends of the first panel folding down within the end closure flaps.
4. A carton according to claim 1, comprising also a seventh panel hingedly joined to the sixth panel, glued to the second panel and extending upwardly therefrom and a display panel hingedly joined to the upper edge of the seventh panel.
5. A blank for forming a folded carton comprising an aligned series of panels joined together along fold lines and including a set of six panels the first, fourth and sixth panels of the said set being of equal width apart from fold allowances, the third panel being wider than the fifth and the second panel being narrower than the third panel, and the first and sixth panel having correspondingly placed apertures, whereby the blank is adapted for folding first upon the fold line between the second and third panels and then upon the fold line between the fourth and fifth panels to form a partitioned rectangular container with the first panel positioned intermediate the fourth and sixth panel as a partition so that articles may be inserted and held in spaced relation in the apertures in the said first and siXth panels.
6. A blank according to claim 5 including also a terminal glue panel on the first panel of the set for joining it to the fifth panel.
7. A blank according to claim 5, comprising also end closure flaps and end flaps on the first panel adapted to fold down inside the end closures.
8. A blank according to claim 5, comprising also a seventh panel hingedly joined to the sixth panel and positioned for adhesive joining to the second panel.
9. A blank according to claim 8, comprising also an eighth panel hingedly joined to the seventh panel for forming a display panel.
