TETHERED RING AND TARGET AMUSEMENT DEVICE Filed May 21, 1957 I INVENTOR. a; 17% yzzzwvzfm United States Patent TETHERED RING AND TARGET AMUSEMENT DEVICE Olive Brennan, Yonkers, N. Y. Application May 21, 1957, Serial No. 660,614 3 Claims. (Cl. 273-99) This invention relates to amusement devices and more particularly to an amusing game of skill.
Certain types of skill games are attractive to children and adults alike. Accordingly, it is an object of the present invention to provide a toy that is particularly attractive, of simple construction, and which offers a challenge to the skill of children and adults alike.
Another object of the present invention is to provide an amusement device in the form of a comic head having an elongated nose and a plurality of rings suspended from resilient string, wherein the object of the game is to attempt to swing the rings on to the extended nose of the figure.
Another object of the present invention is to provide a toy of the character described that may be manufactured from any plastic or pasteboard material that may be manufactured in large quantities at relatively low cost.
All of the foregoing and still further objects and advantages of this invention will become apparent from a study of the following specification, taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, wherein:
Figure 1 is a side elevational view of an amusement device made in accordance with the present invention; and
Figure 2 is a perspective view of the amusement device shown in Figure l, in operative use.
Referring now to the drawing, and more particularly to Figure 1, thereof, an amusement device It) made in accordance with the present invention is shown to include a substantially flat panel 12 in the form of a comic figure. This figure has an outwardly extending nose 14 with an upwardly exposed concave edge 13 and a downwardly disposed convex edge 16. Actually, the nose 14 is substantially equal in length to the height of the figure 12.
A plurality of independent rings 17, 18, 19, each having a different length elastic string 20, 21, 22, respectively, are suspended from a common point on a circular band 25 that extends around the neck 15 of the figure. This neck 15 also serves as a handle by means of which the device is held, as shown in Figure 2. Each ring 17, 18, 19 is provided with identifying indicia such as numbers or other point scores of different value, depending upon the length of the string and the difliculty of hooking such ring upon the nose 14.
In actual use, the figure 12 is held by the neck 15 in one hand, and the rings 17, 18, 19, swung through the air in an attempt to place them in supported engagement upon the nose 14, such as one loop 17a as shown. The game may have various rules, such that each player is given a predetermined amount of time to hook as many rings as possible, or each player may be given an opportunity to attempt to hook at least one ring thereon, his score being determined by the indicia carried by the respective rings. Of course, the elastic string may be very elastic or inelastic, if desired, while the band 25 is preferably inelastic so as to secure the rings in proper assembled relationship therewith.
While this invention has been described with particular reference to the construction shown in the drawing, it is to be understood that such is not to be construed as imparting limitations upon the invention, which is best defined by the claims appended hereto.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
1. An amusement device comprising, in combination, a figured panel defining a comic figure having an outwardly extending arcuate nose as long as said figure is high projecting outwardly from one side thereof, a handle extending downwardly from another side defining the neck of the comic figure, said nose having an upwardly concave edge and a downwardly convex edge, and a plurality of toroidal shaped members each supported upon a separate flexible cable secured to said panel for swinging movement relative to said nose, each said separate cable being of a ditferent length, whereby a contestant may hold the handle neck portion of the panel for reciprocating movement to swing said toroidal shaped. members onto said nose.
2. An amusement device as set forth in claim 1, wherein said toroidal shaped members are in the form of rings, and each said flexible cable includes a separate flexible member swingably supporting one of said rings from said figure.
3. An amusement device as set forth in claim 2, further comprising a flexible band around said neck, and each of said flexible cable means is secured to a common point on said band.
