(Cl. 2119-60) The present invention relates to tool kits and more particularly to a container for storing nozzles and wands used with suction cleaners.
An object of the invention resides in constructing a tool kit with a front wall opening for insertion of cleaning tools within the kit and an exposed top shelf to receive other cleaning tools. Another object is to provide a tool kit formed from a single blank having few score lines to fold the blank into a kit' having an opening for inserting cleaning tools onto a shelf enclosed within the kit. Other objects and advantages of the invention will ired States Patent become apparent from the following description and drawings, wherein:
Figure 1 is a perspective view, partly broken away, of the assembled tool kit, and
Figure 2 is a plan view of the blank showing the cuts and scored lines prior to forming into a tool kit.
The embodiment of the invention herein disclosed is constructed from a single blank 10 of corrugated or other suitable paperboard. The blank is scored along longitudinal lines 11, 12, 13 and 14 parallel to the edges 15 and 16 of the blank, and is cut at 17, 18 and 19 to provide five panels 21, 22, 23, 24 and 25.
A rear wall 26 is formed in the back panel 21 between the blank edge 15, fold line 11 and spaced transverse score lines 27 and 28. A back bottom wall 29 is hinged to the rear wall 26 at the fold line 27 and is separated from the side panel 22 'by the cut 17. Formed in the interior surface of the back wall 26 is a lanced locating recess 39. Attached to the rear wall 26 at the fold line 28 and above the edge 30 of the side panel 22 is a handle forming portion 31 formed in two parts 32 and 33 by a perforated score line 34, along which the parts are folded and stapled together at 35 to form a double walled handle 36. Each of the parts 32-33 is provided with an opening 37 which are aligned when the parts are secured together to provide an opening 38 for the users hand to grip the handle 36.
A side wall 40 is formed from the side panel 22 between its upper edge 30, the longitudinal fold lines 11 and 12, and a lower fold line 41, the latter providing a hinged connection for a side flap 42 formed by the cuts 17 and 18. A similar side wall 43 is formed in the panel 24 between its upper edge 44, longitudinal fold lines 13-14 and a lower score line 45. Another side flap 46 is hinged by the fold line to the side Wall 43 and is separated from the panel 24 by a out line 19.
A front wall 48 is formed in the panel 23 between the longitudinal fold lines 12-13 and transverse fold lines 49 and 50, the latter being perforated score lines. A bottom wall 51 is hinged to the front wall 48 by the fold line 49 and is separated from the side panels 22-24 by the cuts 18 and 19 respectively. An opening 53 for access to the interior of the kit is formed by a rectangular portion 54 removed from the front wall 48 by three cut lines 55, 56 and 57, and is hinged to the front wall by a perforated score line 58. A slit score line 59 forms ice . 2 the portion 54 into two sections 60 and 61, thesection 6.0 being folded on the line 58 and arranged along the interior of the front wall 48, and the section 61 folded on the line 59 and arranged between the bottom walls 29 and 51.
The portion of the front panel 23 above the fold line 50 is formed in three sections 65, 66 and 67 by lanced and scored lines 63 and 64. The section 65 is folded on the lines 50 and 63 for arrangementalong the interior of the front wall 48, and the section 66 folded on the lines 63 and 64to form a shelf 68 between the front andrear walls 48 and --26 respectively. In the fold line 64 is a cut tab 69 which seats in the locating recess 39 to position the shelf 68 during assembly. The top section 67 is folded on the line 64 to project upwardly from the shelf 68 and along the interior surface of the back wall 26 to the fold line 28.
A plurality of openings 71 and 72 are formed at opposite ends of the shelf 68 for passage of cleaning wands into engagement with the base of the kit. Openings 71 and 72 are formed by arcuate cuts 73 and 74 which join the fold lines 63 and 64 respectively, and the cut material 75 of the hole 72 projects downwardly along the flap panel 25, and the other material 76 along the front wall 48. Two other openings 77 and 78 are cut in the shelf 68.
In order to form the tool kit the blank 10 is folded along the lines 11, 12, 13 and 14 and the side panel 25 is secured by staples 80 or cement to and inwardly of the rear wall 26 along the edge 15 to form a rectangular body which can thereafter be collapsed fiat to consome less shipping space. The opening 53 is formed by folding the portion 60 on the line 58 along the interior of the front wall 48. The side flaps 42 and 46 are folded on the lines 41 and 45 respectively inwardly of the side walls 40 and 43, and the rear bottom wall 29 is then folded on the line 27, thereafter the front bottom wall 51 and the portion 61 are folded along the lines 49 and 59 respectively to complete the base of the kit. The bottom wall structure is then secured together by staples 81. The upper portion of the front panel 23 is folded along the lines 50, 63 and 64 to arrange the portion 65 along the interior of the front wall 48, the portion 66 forming the shelf 68, and the portion 67 extending along the rear wall 26 to the fold line 28 and overlying the upper portion of the side panel 25. During this folding operation the locating tab 69 engages the recess 39 to position the shelf 68 and thus the portion 67 so that the latter can be secured to the back wall 26 by staples 82.
It will be noted that the shelf 68 is supported from the front wall 48 by the portion 65 depending from the fold line 50 and also provides a barrier above the shelf to retain the cleaning tools thereon. The bottom walls 29 and 51 form a base 84 to support the kit vertically and also provide a support for the cleaning tools inserted through the openings 71 and 72 in the shelf 68 and through the front opening 53 into the kit. The cleaning nozzles are supported on the base 84 and the shelf 68, and the defining edges of the openings 71 and 72 support the wands in upright position on the base 84. The handle 36 may be folded on the line 28 to overlie the shelf 68 for shipping purposes and to retain the tools on the shelf.
While I have shown and described but one embodiment of my invention, it is to be understood that this embodiment is to be taken as illustrative only and not in a limiting sense. I do not Wish to be limited to the particular structure shown and described but to include all equivalent variations except as limited by the scope of the claim.
3 I claim: A kit adapted to store suction cleaner tools and formed .from a single blank of paperboard comprising a rear wall, a first side wall, a front wall and a second side inwardly therealong and then extending rearwardly to said back wall to form an exposed shelf for tools and a doubled wall portion above said shelf, and said upper front wall portion attached to said back wall.
