PRESS-CLAM P FOR BUTTON-FLI ES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 282,711, dated. August 7, 1883.
Application 11011 May -26, 1883. (No 111M101.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ISIDOR FELBER, of Nyack, in the county of Rockland and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Press-Clamps for Holding Shoe-Button Laps, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate cor- Figure 1 isa plan View of my improvement, illustrating its use. Fig. 2 is a sectional side elevation of the same taken through the line a: m, Fig. 1.
The object of this invention is to economize time and labor in scalloping shoe-button laps and to prevent the necessity of forming nailholes in the stock. 1 p I The invention consists in a press-clamp for holding shoe-button laps, constructed with a stationary base-block, to which are pivoted jointed swinging arms, having at their outer ends hand screws provided with swiveled feet, whereby shoe-button laps of various sizes can be conveniently and securely held while being scalloped, as will be hereinafter fully described.
A represents the table, stand, or bench to which the press-clamp is secured.
B is a base-block, which is secured to the table A by screws 0.
To the top of the block B arepivoted, by
dle parts of which are arched, and have hinged joints F formed in them, so that the outer ends of the said arms will have a free lateral movement.
I11 the outer ends of the jointed arms E are formed screw-holes, through which pass the ha-ndscrews G.
To the forward ends of the screws G are swiveled disks H, the lower sides of which are made flat to rest upon the work I, and prevent the said work, or the pattern J, placed upon it, from being marred by the turning of the clampingscrews G.
In using the machine the shoe-button laps I are laid upon the table A, and the pattern J for the scallops is laid upon them. The jointed arms E are then adjusted as the side of the said laps may require, and the screws G are turned down, forcing the disks or feet H firmly upon the pattern J, so as to hold the said laps Isecurely while being cut. The seallops are then cut with apunch in the ordinary 1113111161.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent-- 1. In a press-clamp for holding shoe-button laps, the combination, with the base-block, of the swinging -arms, each consisting of two curved pieces articulated or jointed together laterally, and pivoted to the base-block, and each carrying hand-screws provided with swiveled feet, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
2. Ina press-clamp forholding shoebutton laps, the combination, with the table A, of the stationary base-block B, the swinging jointed arms E, and the hand-screws G, having swiveled feet H, substantially as hereinshown and described, whereby laps of various sizes can be conveniently and securelyheld while being scalloped, as set forth.
