HASP-LOCK.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 282,607, dated August 7,1883.
Application filed February 27, 1853. (No model.)
To 0. whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, JOHN C. Boess, of Auburn, county of Placer, State of California, have invented an Improved Extensible Hasp; and I hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description thereof.
My invention relates to a new and useful improvement in that class of hasps that are capable of being extended longitudinally to adapt them to their staples with ease and accuracy; and it consists in pivoting the lockpin to the sliding portion through a slot in the stationary portion, as hereinafter fully described, and more particularly pointed out in the claim.
' The nature of my invention will be seen A represents a plate, having a pivot-hole, a, 111 one end, a socket, b, in the other end, and
an elongated slot, 0, in its center. Bis aplate slide therein; and O is the lock-pin, pivoted by a small pin, D, passing through the slot 0, and secured in the sliding plate B behind. In Y this manner, as the plate 13 is extended or withdrawn, the lock-pin 0 moves with it to be in position to engage with the staple, with which the plate -B is adapted to engage by means of the usual slot, 6, in its end.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, isv A hasp consisting of the plate A, having an end socket, b, and a central slot, 0, the plate B, having staple-slot e, and the lock-pin 0, all secured together by the pivot bolt or pin d in 0 slot 0, substantially as herein described.
In witness whereof I hereunto set my hand.
JOHN C. BOGGS.
I Witnesses:
JOHN M. FULWEILER, F. D. ADAMS.
