Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CRVILLE CHOI-ITE, OF MORRISVILLE, VERMONT.
MOP-WRINGER.
Specification of Letters Patent No. 28,257, dated May 15, 1860.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it lrnown that I, Oni/'ILLE CHoA'rE, of Morrisville, in the county of Lamoille and State of Vermont, have invented a new and useful Device for YVringing Cut Mops; and I do hereby declare that thefollowing is a full, clear, and eXact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forining a part of this specification, in which Figure l represents a vertical cross section taken through the pail or bucket, showing my wringer applied to the same with the parts iii two posit-ions, one for receiving the mop and the other for pressing out the water from the mop as it is drawn between them.
In the drawings, A represents an ordinary bucket or pail for containing water for washing purposes, on opposite sides of which are secured two uprights, B B, connected together at their top ends by curved bars, B', which serve as handles for the pail and also as supports for two rollers, C C, which eX- tend across the top of the pail. These rollers are to be operated with the foot while the mop is held in the hand so as to forcibly bring them together, and hold them closed upon the mop when it may be drawn from them and the water squeezed or pressed out of it. For effecting this the rollers have their end bearings in the ends of toggle arms, or levers, a a and b b, which are hung by joints from the handles or standards, B B, and the two arms, b b, are jointed together at c, and to curved arms D, which arms pass down on each side (outside) of the pail through staples or guiding eyes, g, (shown in dotted lines) and are jointed to the short arm of a treadle E, which has its fulcrum at L.
The rollers, C C, may be made of wood and india-rubber covering or wood only and should turn freely on their shafts. The treadle arm, D, should be of such a length that when the rollers are brought together the end of the treadle will be down on the floor, as represented.
From this description it will be understood that by pressing the treadle down the rollers, C C, will be forcibly brought together, and that by placing a` mop (such as are generally used on the end of a handle) between the rollers while in the position represented by black lines, and then bringing the rollers together, and drawing the mop between them, the water contained in the mop may be squeezed out, will afterward serve a very useful purpose for drying the washed parts.
Having thus described my invention what I desire to claim and secure by Letters Patent, is
The arrangement of the toggle levers a, c1, Z), Z), within the uprights or fra-me B, B', in combination with the pressing rollers C, C', and treadle arms D, as and for t-he purpose herein shown and described.
