I UNITED STAT S- PATENT OFFICE.
FRANK SVOBODA, on KEWAUNEE, Wisconsin.
NECK-YQKE ATTACH M ENT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 282,471, dated July 31, 1883.
in Neck-Yoke Attachments, of which the following is a specification.
This invention consists in the combination, with a pole-tip, of a bracket, a socket formed in the bracket, and a springdatch mounted in the bracket, and provided with a nipple constructed to engage with said socket, so that when the tail of the latch is depressed the ring of the neck-yoke can be introduced, and that by the bracket a holdback is formed. The bracket is secured to a ferrule which fits the pole-tip. The front end of the latch forms a hook to retain the ring of the neck-yoke'and preventthe same from becoming detached ac- 2o cidentally.
Inthe drawings, Figure 1 represents an inverted plan. Fig. 2 is a sectional side view. Similar letters indicate corresponding parts. In the drawings, .the letter A designates the tip of a draft-pole, and B is a bracket, which is firmly secured to the under side of this poletip. In the example shown in the drawings this bracket is fastened to or formed in one piece with a ferrule, O, which fits the pole- 3o tip; and I prefer this arrangement, because it forms a firm and durable attachment, and,
furthermore, the ferrule serves to strengthen thepole-tip. The bracket B forms a bearing for a pivot, 41, on which is mounted a latch,
3 5 D, which is exposed to theaction of a spring, b, and the front end of this latch is provided with a nipple, c, which engages with a socket, d, formed in the bracket, the springbhaving a tendency to retain the nipple in said 0 socket." The front end of the latch forms a hook, e. Vhen the tail of the latch is depressed, the ring E of the neck-yoke can be Application filed April 28,1883. (No model.)
readily introduced, and when the latch is closedthe neck-yoke ring is securely-retained therein, and it is prevented by the hook e from dropping out accidentally, even if the latch should open from some cause. At the same time the bracket B forms a holdback, so that if the vehicle goes downhill and the straps should get loose on the whiflietrees, the draft- 5o pole is prevented from dropping down, and accidents are avoided. What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is I 1'. The combination, with a pole-tip, of the 5 5 bracket B, forming a holdback, and having a socket, (1, formed in its forward part, and the, spring-latch D, mounted in the rear part of the bracket, and. provided with a nipple, r',
constructed toengage with said socket, subformed in the forward part of the bracket, the
spring-latch D, mounted in the rear part of the bracket, and provided at its forward end i with a hook, e, and nipple c, to engage with said socket, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal in the presence of two subscribing Witnesses;
