1 Claim. (Cl. 206-29) The present invention relates to new and useful improvements in match books and has for one of its important objects to provide, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, a package of this character comprising unique fingernail and teeth cleaning means.
Another very important object of the invention is to provide a match book or package of the aforementioned character which includes novel means for protecting and preserving the cover and the usual advertising matter thereon, while at the same time focusing the attention of the user on said advertising matter.
Other objects of the invention are to provide an improved match book of the character described which will be of simple construction, durable, compact, attractive in appearance and which may be produced at low cost.
These together with other objects and advantages which will become subsequently apparent reside in the details of construction and operation as more fully hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawings forming a part hereof, wherein like numerals refer to like parts throughout, and in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a match book embodying the attachment constituting the present invention;
Figure 2 is a perspective view substantially similar to Figure 1 but showing the attachment in raised position;
Figure 3 is a perspective view of the attachment per se; and
Figure 4 is a cross-sectional view, taken substantially on the line 4-4 of Figure 1.
Referring now to the drawing in detail, it will be seen that reference character 5 designates generally the cover of a match book. The cover 5, as usual, is in the form of a strip of suitable material folded transversely on itself at longitudinally spaced points, as at 6 and 7, in a manner to provide a back 8, a flange 9 and a closure flap or front 10 the free end portion of which is insertable behind said flange. Match cards 11 have one end portion ICC secured between the flange 9 and the lower portion of the back 8 through the medium of a staple 12.
Mounted longitudinally on the back 8 of the cover 5 is a substantially rectangular sheet 13 of suitable resilient, substantially translucent or transparent material such as celluloid. Of course, other plastics may be used. The staple 12 secures one end portion of the sheet 13 on the back 8 of the cover 5. The other end of the resilient sheet 13 is free.
It is thought that the invention will be readily understood from a consideration of the foregoing. Briefly, the resilient translucent or transparent sheet 13 normally hugs the back 8 of the cover 5, thus protecting said back and the advertising or other matter thereon as at 14. The advertising or other matter 14 may be readily observed through the resilient sheet 13 or, if desired, said sheet may be lifted as shown in Figure 2 of the drawing to expose the advertising matter. Also, by lifting the sheet 13 any of the several sharp corners 15 thereof may be used for picking the teeth or cleaning the fingernails. When released, the resilient sheet 13 immediately returns to its position on the back 8 of the cover 5.
The foregoing is considered as illustrative only of the principles of the invention. Further, since numerous modifications and changes will readily occur to those skilled in the art, it is not desired to limit the invention to the exact construction and operation shown and described, and accordingly all suitable modifications and equivalents may be resorted to, falling within the scope of the invention as claimed.
What is claimed as new is as follows:
A match book comprising an elongated cover including an imperforate back, a foldable front on one end of said back, match cards, a fastener mounting the cards at one end of the cover, a resilient polygonal sheet of substantially the same dimensions as said back mounted on the back and having one end secured by said fasteners to the other end portion of said back, the other end of said sheet being free and superposed in overlying, contacting relation to said cover and forming an additional thickness thereon, said sheet being of transparent material whereby a surface of said cover may be inspected through said sheet, and right angular pointed corners on the free end of said free end constituting cleaning elements.
