Similarly, the cams `can be adjusted so that their axes coincide with the perpendicular to the face of the outlet so as to permit the upper portions of the blades to come substantially together and thus cut off flow of air.
The slot in a wall of the duct or unit may have a flexible gasket of rubber or the like around its edge as seen at 34 in Fig. 3, the inner edge thereof contacting the walls of frame 14 to provide a seal. In the form shown in Figs. 3 to 5, an ornamental or other wall 35 is engaged by the lips 36 of the frame, bolts or holding means 37 being provided for removably holding the unit in place. If the ornamental covering 35 is omitted, lips 36 will Contact the gasket member 34 directly.
When the outlet control means is to be used in a duct wherein the aperture is elongated in the direction of flow of air in the duct such as seen in Fig. 7, the longitudinally extending perforated plate 33 (seen for example in Fig. 3) can be employed to cause air to flow through the aperture along substantially its entire length. As air passes along the plate, it can be theorized that a turbulence will be set up due to its passage over the apertures in such a manner as to tend to direct the air throughthe outlet opening along its entire length. lf desired, two or more 'of the outlet controls can be employed side by side as illustrated in Fig. 8. The perforated plate also can be used when the outlet control is used in conjunction with the distributing box illustrated in Fig. 6.
The present device discharges the air into the zone at a higher than normal velocity yet is quiet in operation, the direction and velocity of discharge being readily adjustable. Also, the relatively long and narrow slot provides an air stream which does not carry as far nor does it provide the potentialities for creating drafts that a lower` velocity outlet with lower aspect ratio or ratio of width to length.
It should be apparent that details of construction can be varied without departing from the spirit of the invention except as set forth in the appended claims.
What is claimed is:
1. In an air control device for the outlet of an air conditioning system distributing device, the combination including an outlet slot, a pair of cooperating air control blades having oppositely facing convex entrance faces providing a rounded nozzle-like entrance and controlling velocity and direction of air from said slot, pivot means for said blades, operating cams for each of said blades, each of said cams being independently rotatable to adjust the distance between said blades and the direction of said blades relative to said slot, and yieldable means holding each of said blades against its respective cam means.
2. In an air control device for an elongated aperture outlet of an air conditioning system distributing device,
the combination including a frame insertable in said aperture outlet, `a pair of cooperating air control blades having facing convex entrance faces controlling air through said aperture outlet, pivot means in said frame for said blades, said pivot means being intermediate the edges of their respective blades, rotatable cam means on said frame for each of said blades, said cam means being rotatable to adjust the distance between said blades and the direction of said blades relative to said slot, and yieldable means holding each of said blades against its respective cam means.
3. In an air control device for an elongated outlet aperture of an air conditioning system distributing device, the combination including a frame mountable in said aperture, a pair of cooperating air control blades having convex entrance faces, said blades being pivotally mounted in said frame controlling direction and velocity from said aperture, cam means for each of said blades, said cam means beeing movable to adjust the distance between said blades and the direction of said blades relative to said aperture, a perforated plate located along said frame at the inlet to said blades to distribute air substantially evenly through said blades along said aperture, and yieldable means holding each of said blades against its respective cam means.
4. In an air control device for an elongated aperture outlet of an air conditioning system distributing device, the combination including a frame insertable in said aperture outlet, a pair of cooperating air control blades having facing convex entrance faces controlling air through said aperture outlet, said blades having lip means spaced from said convex faces extending toward the edges of said aperture, sealing means engaging said edges of said aperture and said lip means so as to prevent the ow of air therebetween, pivot means in said frame for said blades, cam means on said frame for each of said blades, said cam means being movable to adjust the distance between said blades and the direction of said blades relative to said slot, and yieldable means holding each of said blades against its respective cam means.
