(Cl. 248-126) The present invention relates to improvements in jalousies and more particularly to auxiliary clips adapted to hold supplemental panels in proximity to the usual glass louvers.

In the conventional jalousie provided with glass panels or louvers it is frequently desirable to reduce the total amount of sun passing therethrough to minimize glare. It has been proposed to accomplish this by providing the jalousie with a number of translucent or colored louvers at the top portion or elsewhere. Inasmuch as the usual jalousie is fitted with louvers in a more or less permanent manner it is normally not convenient to make this change. For instance, it may be that in the afternoon it would be desirable to have one or more of the louvers replaced with translucent or even opaque panels which would be removed after the sun goes down and the regular louvers replaced. This is troublesome with the conventional jalousie.

It is a principal object of the invention therefore to provide a supplemental or auxiliary clip removably attached to the normal prime louver clip which can be put in place readily and quickly to receive a second opaque or translucent panel which will provide shade during hot summer months or cut down the glare all without removing the standard glass louver.

It is another object of the invention to provide such a second panel in a manner which will not interfere in any way with the operation of the standard louvers either when open or closed.

It is still another object of the invention to provide such clips which may be attached to existing installations by the inexperienced home owner or at the factory as an alternative, all without tools yet in a tight satisfactory manner.

To this end the invention contemplates an auxiliary panel clip for jalousie louvers adapted to be attached to the standard louver prime or support clip. Such supple- -mental clip may be provided with two parallel side walls,

a bottom and an end wall forming a channel therebetween. One side wall is also provided with a return flange on the outside of the clip and lying in parallelism but spaced from the wall to which it is attached. It is contemplated that this clip flange may be slipped under one wall of the prime clip so as to lie between it and the glass louver. By providing two such clips, one at each end of the jalousie assembly, a translucent or opaque panel may then be slipped between its channels so as to lie parallel to but slightly spaced apart from the conventional jalousie louver.

The invention further comprises the novel construction combination and arrangement of parts more fully hereinafter described and shown in the drawings, in which:

Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a preferred form of clip.

Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the clip of Fig. 1 attached to one conventional and commercial form of prime or support clip.

Referring now to the embodiments illustrated, one commercial form of louver prime or support clip is shown in Fig. 2 to consist of an operating arm 1 extending out from the bottom 2 to which is also attached an upstanding side wall 3. Extending up from the other side of the bottom are two spring fingers 4 and 5 which are adapted to receive and hold tightly between them and the side wall a glass louver 6. An end wall 7 prevents the louver from sliding out of the prime or support clip and a spring 8 bearing against the end edge of the louver holds the latter securely between the clip and its mate at the other side of the jalousie assembly without rattling.

In Fig. I an auxiliary clip construction is shown to include two

side walls

9 and 10 and a bottom wall 11 (Fig. 2). Wall 9 is provided withtwo flanges l2 and 13 which are simply return bends of the side wall 9. It is to be noted that the flanges lie in substantial parallelism with wall 9 but slightly spaced therefrom a distance to receive the wall 2 of the prime or support clip in a snug manner. At the end of the clip an end wall 14 is shown which prevents the panel from slipping out of the clip when the louver assembly is tilted in a normal manner.

When it is desired to put an auxiliary panel in place it is only necessary to slip the flanges l2 and '13 of a pair of auxiliary clips over the wall 3 of the prime or support clip at each end of the jalousie assembly and then slip an opaque or translucent panel 15' in place. Once the clips are in place they need not be removed as they do not interfere in any way with the operation of the jalousie and are inconspicuous.

Any number of pairs of prime or support clips may be thus provided with pairs of auxiliary clips dependent upon the number of glass louvers tOQbE temporarily covered.

The auxiliary panels may be made of any desirable material such as wood or plastic. Thus being lighter and non fragile they may be placed or removed by an inclip.

In Fig. 6 a modified form of flange is shown to be of the continuous type at 16 but of less depth than the side wall 9 so as to neither straddle the spring nor to be discontinuous.

While the invention has been described with reference to particular embodiments, yet it is to be restricted only by the scope of the claim or its equivalents.

What is claimed is:

In combination, a jalousie louver support clip having a sidewall at right angles to a bottom, with an operating arm extending outwardly from the bottom and in substantially the same plane, spring arms attached to the bottom and at right angles thereto and substantially parallel to the side wall and adapted to pinch a louver between said arms and the side wall, anauxiliary panel clip hav- 3 wall of the support clip lying between a side wall and its return flange of the auxiliary panel clip, whereby a second panel may be removably held in the channel of the auxiliary clip in proximity to but spaced from a louver held by said support clip.
